NoSQL databases become more and more popular, not only in typical Internet applications. They allow to store large volumes of data (so called big data), while ensuring fast retrieving and fast appending. The main disadvantage of NoSQL databases is that they do not use relational model of data and usually do not offer any declarative query language similar to SQL. This raises the question how NoSQL databases can be used for OLAP processing and other Business Intelligence tasks. In the paper the author presents the most common types of NoSQL databases, describes MapReduce paradigm and discusses models of OLAP processing for such databases. Finally some preliminary results of aggregation performance in nonrelational environment are presented.

The efficiency of exploiting the software takes on new dimensions under the conditions of integrated exploitation at the level of process and structural organization of SMEs found within the regional strategic alliances. The modeling and simulation of the leadership and regulation processes of the supply, sales and production flows imply a complex display of forces between the different partners of the logistic chain which can be supported by the existence of some data bases developed based on information partnership whose purpose is to counterattack the communication barriers and to ensure a flow and flexibility of the entire logistic flow. The modeling and simulation of the non-industrial processes can lead to the increase of the efficient development of the rural areas and small urban areas through agro-tourism, combining elements that are specific to some fields such as agriculture, ecology, merchandise/people transportation and tourism.

The aim of this article is to experimentally verify higher efficiency of NoSQL databases over typical relational databases. After short introduction to NoSQL, document databases and key-value stores, several efficiency tests were conducted, with the use of YCSB testing benchmark. Results show that the higher the load on the database, the higher the efficiency benefit of using NoSQL, especially for insert and update operations, and for key-value stores. Afterwards, the database efficiency is compared in a real application - a user-based recommendation engine. In this case the usage of NoSQL can boost the application speed at least three times, but the predicted efficiency increase under greater loads is much higher.

W celu empirycznej werysfikacji hipotez ekonomicznych, zwłaszcza dotyczących długiego okresu, konieczne jest utworzenia baz danych obejmujących duży przedział czasu. Jednakże skompletowanie odpowiedniej liczby obserwacji o częstotliwości rocznej nieuchronnie wiąże się z częstymi zmianami definicji i zakresu wielu kategorii ekonomicznych, zróżnicowaniem źródłowego materiału statystycznego, ewidencyjnym dualizmem czy wreszcie zmianami klasyfikacyjnymi rachunków narodowych. Zjawiska te komplikują prace nad otrzymaniem porównywalnych szeregów czasowych. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane problemy związane z tworzeniem operacyjnych baz danych dla potrzeb rocznych makroekonomicznych modeli gospodarki narodowej Polski serii W8.

Completion of proper number of annual frequency observations is unavoidably connected with often changes of definitions and scope of various economic categories, diversification of source statistical data, dualism of information or classified changes of national accounts. These occurrences make works for receiving comparative time series more involved. For needs of reliable medium- and long-term analyses of development tendencies of Polish economy as well as for needs of elaboration of alternative economics policies including analyses do not based on facts it is necessary to hold adequately long and homogenous (if it is possible) time series. The article presents some problems connected with elaboration of databases for the needs of annual and macroeconomic models of Polish national economy of W8 series. The results of preparation of databases for next versions of W8 model was an elaboration of constant procedures that were summarised by the article. (original abstract)

The growing importance of real estate in the economy has resulted in an increased demand for reliable market information. In response to this, public and private entities have been preparing a variety of analytical studies. In case of public entities, investors are provided with information through periodic market reports, and some private entities also make fragmentary information available to the public. The topic for this paper was inspired by the promising results of a pilot study conducted in 2011 which involved a critical assessment of all adopted system solutions concerning the organization of public registers recording sales transactions in the real estate market. Another inspiration came from the results of a 2009 study of the commercial real estate market which revealed incorrectness of the evaluation of its basic parameters. The aim of this study is to assess the completeness and methodology of data collection on residential real estate sales transactions by the Central Statistical Office of Poland (GUS), the National Bank of Poland (NBP), the Polish Banks Association (AMRON) and the local database of real estate appraisers (Baza RM). The detailed results of the study refer to the Katowice market. The paper presents supplemented and corrected results of the author's own research from 2009 and 2011 on the residential real estate market, which is the most frequently analyzed market by both public and private entities and is highly active, as well as relatively homogeneous and stable in terms of its operating conditions.

Instytut Badań Regionalnych Biblioteki Śląskiej uzyskał w ramach programu Kultura Cyfrowa dofinansowanie Ministerstwa Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego na realizację projektu Śląski Słownik Geograficzno-Historyczny GEOHIST. Projekt jest realizowany w latach 2017–2019. Oprócz ułatwienia w dostępie do dokumentów umożliwi on stworzenie oryginalnej bazy danych statystycznych z ich wizualizacjami w postaci interaktywnej mapy, prezentującej dane z 1910, 1930, 1950 i 2002 r.

The Regional Research Institute of the Silesian Library has received a financial support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, under the Digital Culture program, for the implementation of the project The Geographical and Historical Dictionary of Silesia GEOHIST. The project is being implemented in 2017-2019. It will facilitate access to documents and will enable the creation of an original statistical database, including visualisation of data in the form of an interactive map, presenting data from 1910, 1930, 1950 and 2002.

Genealogia, chociaż uważana za jedną z nauk pomocniczych historii, coraz częściej wymaga nowoczesnego podejścia i nowych możliwości upowszechnienia przekazywanej informacji. Genealogiczne bazy danych doskonale się do tego nadają i stają się przez to coraz bardziej powszechne. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest charakterystyka sześciu wybranych baz genealogicznych, omówienie okoliczności powstania i rozwoju, zasad gromadzenia materiału oraz ich funkcjonalności, w tym udostępniania danych, możliwości przeszukiwania ich zasobów oraz filtrowania rezultatów wyszukiwania. Autor wyjaśnił, jak należy definiować i postrzegać genealogiczne bazy danych, jak klasyfikować ich zasoby oraz w jaki sposób z nich korzystać.

Genealogy, although considered as one of the auxiliary sciences of history, more and more often requires a modern approach and new possibilities of disseminating information transmitted. Genealogical databases are perfect for this and are becoming more and more common. The following text aims to familiarize a potential user with these databases, show the principles of operation and collection, share data contained therein, the ability to search their resources, correctly read the results. Before that, however, it explains what genealogical databases are, what their typology is and how they fit into the divisions and hierarchies already established. Six bases are described here along with the rules of their operation, showing the search possibilities (or their absence), filtering/sorting results and other options of use.

The mission of official statistics is to provide credible, reliable, independent and high-quality information on the state and changes in society, the economy and the environment, meet the needs of domestic and foreign users. Fulfillment of this obligation is reflected in the work of the current official statistics and in development activities. Monitoring of the socio-economic development requires continuous adaptation of statistics to the changing reality and the description of the phenomena and processes. The role of official statistics in the modern world goes far beyond the implementation of the research. Measuring sustainable development and information support for development policy are tangible examples of the undertaken challenges. The form and manner of data presentation have increasing importance for the effective transfer of information. To answer the need to improve communication with users, the CSO is implementing new systems of information share. The article describes, among others, "Strateg" and "Knowledge Databases". The aim of this article is presentation fundamentals of the proposed hybrid method knowledge validation concerning web user navigation patterns discovery. Four techniques of knowledge validation are employed in the described method: inspection, identification, elimination and substitution. In the implemented program algorithm WLM necessary constraints and indicators have been elaborated: sequence consistency ratio, sequence adequacy ratio and sequential association rule adequacy ratio.

digitization, digitization, including full-text search, open access and open data are a great message highlighting the importance and role of modern bibliography and bibliographic databases as an important link in the whole process of creating, circulating and delivering research results. Bibliographic databases play an important role in developing potential research fields, and also enable the achievement of research results carried out in various research centers. Bibliographic databases become a platform for exchanging achievements and communicating with the public. The aim of the article is to show the role and meaning of bibliographic databases for improving scientific communication and scientific activity.
