Currently, a half of the world population grows up in an environment with more than one spoken language, so the research on bilingualism has been quite extensive. However, just few of the studies are focused on individuals with communication disabilities or intellectual disorders, who acquire their mother (and other) tongues with more difficulty and slower. This contribution presents a case report on early verbal communication development of a four-year-old child with Down syndrome growing up in a bilingual Czech-German environment. This research was conducted mainly through longitudinal observation and video recording of the same activities, preferably at home, at the age of 24 to 48 months. To understand language exposure and language dominancy, the speech environment questionnaire (specifically the Beirut-Tours Questionnaire) was used. It shows that bilingualism could be beneficial for these individuals and it is not detrimental to their language acquisition. The key factors for a good acquisition of both (or more) languages are language exposure, intensity of contact with the languages, and good speech therapy, preferably in both languages.

Divadlo diverzity  : Theater RambaZamba v Berlíně

RambaZamba is a professional theatre working with actors with intellectual disabilities (especially with the Down syndrome) as well as with actors without such disabilities. The study focuses on the new era of the theatre, which has begun after Jacob Höhne became its artistic director. Höhne strives for a theatre of diversity, where differences are not perceived as creating a meaning. By employing this approach in both the management and artistic side of the theatre, RambaZamba wants to integrate itself into the regular professional Berlin theatre scene. An analysis of three productions from the new era of the theatre supplemented by the diary entries from the research visit of the theatre investigates the potential of this aesthetics and deals with the tension between the phenomenological and semiotic perception of theatre work.

RambaZamba je profesionální divadlo zaměstnávající herce s mentálním postižením (zejména s Downovým syndromem) i bez něj. Studie se soustředí na novou éru divadla, která nastala po nástupu uměleckého šéfa Jacoba Höhne. Ten usiluje o divadlo diverzity, v němž není rozdílnost vnímaná významově. Divadlo RambaZamba se s tímto přístupem chce zařadit mezi běžná profesionální berlínská divadla, o což se snaží po stránce provozní i umělecké. Analýza tří inscenací této nové éry divadla doplněná o deníkové záznamy z výzkumného pobytu v divadle rozkrývá potenciál této estetiky a zabývá se napětím mezi fenomenologickým a sémiotickým vnímáním divadelního díla.
