AThis article considers the possible influence of Neo-Stoician literary circles active in Silesia at the end of the 16th century on Jacobus Handl Gallus' compositional techniques. The focus of attention is the role played by the Wroclaw-born poet Salomon Frenzel, a close friend of the composer, whose Latin compositions form an important background for Gallus' moralia.
