The aim of this article is to show the impact of international logistics on the rationalisation of global economic flows. The growing role of outsourcing and offshoring has a significant impact on new forms of economic flows which gradually evolve from simple economic flows towards complex, integrated kinds. The article also looks at logistics mega-regions and appraises their share in the global value of logistics services. The supply chain is characterised as the basis for economic flows. Particular attention is given to certain tasks performed by supply chains, such as optimal utilisation of company assets, time compression in logistic operations, reduction of transaction costs, and the concentration of efforts on actions creating value for customers. A special role of international logistic networks as a variety of economic networks is emphasized. The development of such networks makes a case for sustainable logistics as a contribution to environmental protection in the global economy.
The article presents the concept of international logistics as a component of logistics' science. Today it is one of the most dynamically developing areas of businesses and it has an impact on the results of businesses and multinational corporations. A state (a country) and integration groups play a special role in the development of international logistics , creating not only infrastructural conditions for the implementation of operational and strategic functions, but also opportunities of running a business in the international area.
