The article describes a part of social practice in which the Kashubian community in Polish People’s Republic and in times of transformational breakthrough took some actions. They strived to protect the rights to preserve their language and culture, as well as cross-generation culture transmission. In particular, they demanded the right to Kashubian education at school. The article also describes some aspects of social and educational ideas which appeared in the Kashubian space. Finally the article describes the theory of regional education of Kazimierz Kossak-Główczewski.

Artykuł charakteryzuje fragment praktyki społecznej, w ramach której społeczność kaszubska w Polsce Ludowej i w czasach przełomu transformacyjnego podejmowała działania zmierzające do ochrony praw do zachowania języka i kultury, pokoleniowej transmisji kultury, a w szczególności dopominała się o prawo do edukacji kaszubskiej w szkole. Artykuł opisuje też wybrane aspekty idei społecznej i edukacyjnej, jaka rodziła się w publicznej przestrzeni kaszubskiej, a w końcowej części charakteryzuje teorię edukacji regionalnej Kazimierza Kossak-Główczewskiego.

The text presents a pedagogically important issue of textbooks for ethnic education. The exam-ples investigated are textbooks for early Kashubian education. In Polish pedagogy, ethnic text-books are rarely the subject of research in the field of early education pedagogy, regional edu-cation pedagogy and intercultural pedagogy. For this reason, they are periodically a subject of critical research which is aimed at examining them in the context of pedagogical reflections on cultural aspects of religiosity and religious beliefs. Religiosity and religious beliefs are the key area of the article. They allowed the textbook to present an aspect of “the truth” about ethnic identity (Kashubian identity). It also enabled me to recognize the textbook pattern of identity as a pattern of identity behaviours (Tadeusz Lewowicki) in the areas of language (Kashubian speech) and religious behaviours (Catholicism) and beliefs (Slavic-Kashubian).

The article depicts the research activity of employees of the Pedagogical Institute (General Pedagogy Department and Department of the History of Science and Education). They conduct research under the guidance of prof. Dr. UG. hab. Kazimierz Kossak-Główczewski. The main topics are multiculturalism (including multiculturalism of Gdansk Pomerania), regional education (including Kashubian education) and intercultural issues. Pedagogical research represents only a part of wider mainstream of humanistic and social studies which are conducted at the University of Gdansk and Kashubian Institute in Gdańsk. These studies are also inspired by educational practice. The description also applies to selected activities of Gdańsk sociologists, linguists, literary scholars and historians of Kashubian issues. The names of selected practitioners are listed.

Artykuł opisuje działalność naukowo-badawczą pracowników Instytutu Pedagogiki (Zakład Pedagogiki Ogólnej i Zakład Historii Nauki, Oświaty i Wychowania), którzy pod kierunkiem prof. UG dr. hab. Kazimierza Kossak- -Główczewskiego podejmują badania nad tematyką wielokulturowości (w tym wielokulturowości Pomorza Gdańskiego), edukacją regionalną (w tym edukacją kaszubską) i zagadnieniami międzykulturowości. Badania pedagogiczne stanowią zaledwie fragment szerszego nurtu badań humanistycznych i społecznych podejmowanych w Uniwersytecie Gdańskim i Instytucie Kaszubskim w Gdańsku. Badania te inspirowane są także praktyką edukacyjną. Stąd opis dotyczy także wybranych działań gdańskich socjologów, językoznawców, literaturoznawców i historyków problematyki kaszubskiej. Przywołano także wybrane nazwiska praktyków edukacji kaszubskiej.
