Restored in 1880, the Department of Theology of the Jagiellonian University grew quickly and achieved a significant scholarly position as early as the end of the 19th century. Krakow bishops played an important role in the development of the faculty. State and church legislation granted them a deciding voice in the selection of the teaching staff.

Odnowiony w 1880 r. Wydział Teologiczny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego szybko się rozwijał i już z końcem ubiegłego stulecia osiągnął znaczącą pozycję naukową. Ważną rolę w rozwoju fakultetu odegrali biskupi krakowscy. Prawodawstwo państwowe i kościelne przyznawało im bowiem decydujący głos w doborze kadry nauczającej.
