The article deals with the topic of a legendary female figure named Llorona, which became popular in the Mexican tradition and Mexican popular music from the 16th century to today. The first part of the article presents the legend of Llorona and focuses on two figures that strongly influenced the contemporary view of her, that is on the mythical, Aztec goddess Cihuacóatl, and on Malinche, an Indian woman from the period of the conquistadors, and on her symbolic meaning in Mexican folklore. The second part of the article concentrates on the song La Llorona. Apart from analysis of its text and music, some examples of the performances of that song by various Mexican folk-groups, which endow them with the characteristics of their regional music, are discussed. Also the figures of two Mexican singers, Chavela Vargas and Lili Downs are considered as the outstanding interpreters of La Llorona.

The paper analyses vault paintings in the pilgrimage Pauline Church and the Holy Fountain Chapel in Mariatal, one of the most important pilgrimage sites of Historic Hungary, established in 1377 by king Louis I 'the Great' of Anjou. The paintings, executed in the first half of the 18th century, depicted Virgin Mary (sanctuary - later repainted during regothization) and history of the Pauline Order (nave - intact).

The paper deals with the question of historicity of legend of the Roman saints Gallicanus, John and Paul. It is still often presented as genuine history to the Czech reader. Henceforth, three facets of the legend are examined using philological and historical tools. Historicity of the characters featured in the legend, as well as the mutual relations among the historical ones, as portrayed by the legend, is examined, and confronted with historical fact on their actual relations. Gallicanus’ alleged battle against the Scythians at Philippopolis is checked as whether it is identifiable to any event recorded in other sources. And lastly, the question of Julian’s sojourn to Rome, which seems necessary within the plot of the legend, is tested for being ruled out for the entire time of his reign. Thus the classical method for examining the historicity of a legend is presented, while at the same time demonstrating the limitations it necessarily suffers even when as historically absurd a legend is examined. Yet, based only on these limitations, the legend cannot be presented as history.

The article focuses on the analysis of collections of fairy tales and legends of the Czech revivalist Božena Němcová, especially those in the Czech language. The specific clusters of tales are being analyzed one by one, as for the frequency of textual emendations made by B. Němcová. The most modified were the magical tales, less modified the anecdotic and humoristic ones, only slight changes were applied to animal, legendary and cumulative tales. All the changes correspond to the „mythological school“ of her time, but unlike Erben Němcová did not sought for the mythological origins of the texts, but rather aimed at expanding them and adapting them in accord with the conviction of the Czech National Movement on the crucial importance of the popular culture.

The present study aims to analyse one of the most complex Ancient sources that enable us to study not only history and geography, but - as will be explained - also the ethnology of the life in ancient Greece and Rome, not only in the second century A.D., but in the older periods as well. The great quantity of folklore data is compartmentalized according to the types of literary folklore forms. This system is introduced by the researcher, as the Antiquity did not use such categorizations. The source contains a great number of tales and legends, fewer small folklore forms and also many topics known from later fairy tales. The concluding part of the article focuses on the importance of Pausanias' work for the culture of the Antiquity in general and to the parallels with similar works produced in the Czech milieu in the nineteenth century.
