In the paper are the results of the 42nd quarterly economic sentiment survey in the Lubelskie voivodeship conducted by the University of Management and Administration in Zamosc: using a survey sample size of 485 enterprises and 500 households. The survey's data shows the economic sentiment index for the Lubelskie voivodeship for the 3rd quarter, 2011, has a value of minus 13 (range from minus 100 to plus 100 points) and decreased by 14 points compared to the previous quarter, going back to the lowest level during 2009 recession. It means that the recovery from the recession has a W-shape. But the entrepreneurs and consumers forecast an improvement in the 4th quarter. And this means that in the 3rd quarter, 2011, economic sentiment and the economy in the Lubelskie voivodeship reached 'the second doldrums'.

The main subject of the paper is the operation of private accommodation facilities in the rural areas of the Lubelskie region. The author tries to explore the benefits which the providers of tourist services get from the activity. Do the accommodation facilities constitute an important source of income for them? Does the activity of providing accommodation bring other, non-material benefits? The relevant data have been collected with the help of a semi-structured interview. The author analyses in detail the attractions and services for tourists, the number of overnight stays and opinions of accommodation providers. She also defines the types of available tourist offers. The obtained results show that the offer for tourists is rather simple and based on the use of the already existing resources of the households supplying tourist services. Only a small proportion of the surveyed accommodation providers can offer attractive and competitive tourist products. Also, there is an insufficient specialization in the offer provided to tourists. Entrepreneurial attitudes are not common among accommodation providers. The business of tourism does not constitute a significant source of income for them. However, most accommodation providers are satisfied with their activity, especially in terms of social relations. The non-material benefits from tourism are of greater significance than the financial profits, especially outside the regional tourism centres.

The paper presents the influence of activity by organizations and associations on tourist-recreational activeness for disabled people within the Lubelskie Voivodeship. It has been shown that expectations addressed by disabled people to organizations, specialized institutions and associations for their assistance in organizing physical activities for the disabled are comparable to those submitted to their closest environment, namely family and friends. In the opinion of the disabled, these institutions do not fully carry out their tasks under the statutory guidelines. Disabled people, mostly alone or with the help of their closest supporter, organize physical and rehabilitative activities. In the case of disabled workers, the workplace provides them with some assistance in organizing their free time. The main barriers that limit the participation in tourist-recreational activities are, most of all, costs of participation in such events, the lack of offers from organizations and associations, and the sparse marketing activity from tourism-sector companies.

Activity of economic entities is a very important element of rural areas development. It contributes to increase in income as well as to improvement of living conditions of the rural population. Development of entrepreneurial initiatives requires the existence of institutions that would provide services to business, carry out activities related to business consultancy, help gain capital and participate in enterprises' financing. In rural areas this function can be assigned to cooperative banks, which are the basic financial institutions. This paper presents the aspects of a cooperative bank's cooperation with enterprises operating in rural areas. The paper has been prepared basing on a survey conducted in 15 communes of the Lubelskie voivodeship within a research project supported by the State Committee for Scientific Research (KBN). The analysis concerns the period 1999-2003.
