NOSQL problem literature review

In this work authors propose to perform an extensive literature review (LR) to elicit all the relevant NoSQL mechanisms, describing them and pointing out the main references. In the first section, they introduce the research methodology where they elicit the main steps to perform a LR. Afterwards, they describe the problem this research intends to help solve. They follow with a LR regarding NoSQL mechanisms and identify and describe the main NoSQL problems. The main contribution concerns that literature searching results are presented in the mind map. Generally, mind mapping is a technique for the concept relations’ visualisation. At the beginning the map is created around a single concept, e.g. NoSQL, which is connected directly to another concept and the other ideas branch out from that. For mind mapping, authors use an open source tool, i.e., Mind Map Maker. Then, they summarize how they evaluate their work. Finally, they conclude about the research and further works.

W artykule autorzy zaproponowali wykonanie obszernych studiów literatury dla przedstawienia konstrukcji środowiska NoSQL, opisali problem i wskazali odnośniki do literatury. W pierwszej części przedstawili metodę badań i opisali etapy studiów literatury jako metody badań. Następnie przedstawili przedmiot badań, zidentyfikowali i opisali główne problemy badawcze. Wyniki badań przedstawili w postaci mapy myśli. Wykorzystali ku temu narzędzie otwarte, tj. Mind Map Maker. Ocenili wyniki i wskazali możliwe dalsze prace badawcze.

Big Data technologies and their application to business processes is growing rapidly. Analytical and consulting enterprises specializing in issues of strategic use of IT technology indicate that the number of companies implementing or planning to implement technological solutions related to Big Data is increasing annually. A lot of companies believe that the analysis of unstructured data will be the key to a deeper understanding of customer behavior. They believe that the analyst is absolutely essential or very important to conduct the overall business strategy and improve operational results. The purpose of the article is to define Big Data, explain what the unstructured data are and how to apply them. Furthermore, in the article I present the results of reports on the Big Data technologies implementation and discuss the associated technologies.

Technologie Big Data i ich zastosowanie do procesów biznesowych rozwijają się w tempie dynamicznym. Przedsiębiorstwa analityczno-doradcze specjalizujące się w zagadnieniach strategicznego wykorzystania technologii IT informują, że z roku na rok zwiększa się liczba przedsiębiorstw wdrażających lub planujących wdrożenie rozwiązań technologicznych związanych z Big Data. Dużo przedsiębiorstw uważa, że analizy danych niestrukturalnych będą kluczem do głębszego zrozumienia zachowań klienta. Uważają one, że analityka jest absolutnie niezbędna lub bardzo ważna dla prowadzenia ogólnej strategii biznesowej przedsiębiorstwa oraz do poprawy wyników operacyjnych. Celem tego artykułu jest wyjaśnienie co dokładnie oznacza pojęcie Big Data, co to są dane niestrukturalne oraz jakie mogą mieć zastosowania. Ponadto, w artykule prezentuję wyniki raportów dotyczących wdrażanie technologii Big Data i omawiam przykładowe technologie związane z Big Data.

NoSQL databases become more and more popular, not only in typical Internet applications. They allow to store large volumes of data (so called big data), while ensuring fast retrieving and fast appending. The main disadvantage of NoSQL databases is that they do not use relational model of data and usually do not offer any declarative query language similar to SQL. This raises the question how NoSQL databases can be used for OLAP processing and other Business Intelligence tasks. In the paper the author presents the most common types of NoSQL databases, describes MapReduce paradigm and discusses models of OLAP processing for such databases. Finally some preliminary results of aggregation performance in nonrelational environment are presented.
