The article “Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry” by Oleh Olzhych has been given the status of an authoritative source in domestic literary criticism in recent decades, in particular, in the study of the genesis of emigrant poetry of 1920-1930 and in general on the interpretation of the state of national literature in eastern and western countries, which in the interwar period were respectively under the rule of Russia and Poland. Only the “textual coincidences, general concept and intonation” of the article and Olzhych’s related texts were taken as the basis of identification. Such a technique contains elements of pre-programming of the final result and can lead to erroneous conclusions in identifying the author of the publication. It draws attention to the analogies of text construction, subject matter, lexical and stylistic coincidences, etc., but distracts from what is the main in the objective establishment of the publication of a particular person - the (internal) content of the text. Th e example of Olzhych’s attitude to the process of development of national literature in the interwar period and especially to the work of his father (Oleksandr Oles) shows that he can’t be the author of a politically quite controversial article “Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry”.

Уже десятилетиями подавляющее большинство литературоведов связывают генезис тематики украинской эмиграционной поэзии 1920-1930-х годов с именем Ю. Дарагана, хотя в то же время наиболее выдающимся поэтом эмиграции считают Е. Маланюка. На сегодня нет основательного научного исследования, которое бы доказывало правомерность таких неоднозначных утверждений. Часто они вроде бы вытекают из „свидетельств авторитетных мастеров" слова междувоенного периода (к ним прежде всего относят Б.-И. Антоныча и О. Ольжича), которые соответственно в статьях Поэзия no эту сторону баррикады и Современная украинская nоэзия будто предоставили статус тематического „первенства" среди произведений поэтов-эмигрантов именно стихам Ю. Дарагана из сборника Сагайдак. Однако в результате детального анализа выяснилось, что статья Б.-И. Антоныча написана по заказу и под давлением культурных деятелей советской ориентации, а вот „статья" О. Ольжича явно не принадлежит перу этого автора.

For decades, the vast majority of literature theorists link the genesis theme in Ukrainian emigration poetry of 1920-1930’5 with the name Y. Daragan, while at the same time E. Malaniuk is considered the greatest poet of the exile. However, today there are no sound scientific studies that would prove the validity of these controversial statements. Often they are allegedly derived from ”evidence of influential artists” of the interwar period : B.I. Antonych and 0. Olzhych, in accordance with their articles Poetry on this side of the barricades and Modern Ukrainian poetry. These articles are supposedly given thematic status of ”primacy” among the works of immigrants just south of Y. Daragan collection Quiver. However the detailed analysis revealed that the article written by B.I. Antonych in the order and under the pressure of cultural figures of Soviet orientation, but the article seems to 0. Olzhycha clearly not to be written by its alleged author.
