The article presents the main technologies and their use in costs controlling in health care. The article discusses functional, information, and technological aspects of application of science to support costing in health care. It presents the application of traditional databases to handle the inventory of equipment costing. It describes the use of database technology solutions including OLAP, ROLAP and MOLAP type as well as integrated data model to support costing of medical procedures.

W artykule zaprezentowano autorską koncepcję wykorzystania technologii Business Intelligence w badaniu skuteczności promocji internetowej. Przedstawiony został projekt hurtowni danych mającej zastosowanie przy szacowaniu skuteczności kampanii e-mailingowych przedsiębiorstwa. Zadaniem hurtowni jest gromadzenie, ujednolicanie i organizowanie danych na temat przebiegu i efektów kampanii realizowanych w różnych okresach. Prototyp hurtowni będzie stanowił podstawę do przeprowadzania analiz wielowymiarowych przy użyciu narzędzi typu OLAP, których zadaniem będzie określanie skuteczności prowadzonych przez przedsiębiorstwo działań promocyjnych w Internecie. Kolejnym bardzo ważnym celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie opinii przedsiębiorstw na temat użyteczności tego typu rozwiązania, wielkości zapotrzebowania na nie oraz pokazanie oczekiwań, jakie stawiane są wobec niego przez firmy. Autor uzyskał odpowiedzi na te pytania na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań ankietowych wspartych wywiadami bezpośrednimi, co pozwoliło mu na dokonanie weryfikacji zaprojektowanego narzędzia. Uzyskane wyniki zostały szeroko opisane w ramach niniejszego artykułu.

The article presents the author’s concept of the use of Business Intelligence technologies to estimate the effectiveness of web promotion. There has been presented projects of model of data warehouse, that can be used during researches regarding/concerning effectiveness of e-mail campaigns. Among the warehouse’s main objectives will be: gathering, unification and organization of a data regarding proceeding of campaigns and its effects, during various periods of time. The prototype of a data warehouse will be a base to conduct multidimensional analysis by using adequate tools, type OLAP. The objectives of these tools will be establishing the effectiveness of all carried out on the Internet promotional actions. Another very important goal of this article is to present the opinion of companies about usefulness of this type of solution and the size of the demand for such applications. Author received the answers to these questions based on surveys research and direct interviews. The research led him to the verification tool designed. The results have been widely described in this article.

NoSQL databases become more and more popular, not only in typical Internet applications. They allow to store large volumes of data (so called big data), while ensuring fast retrieving and fast appending. The main disadvantage of NoSQL databases is that they do not use relational model of data and usually do not offer any declarative query language similar to SQL. This raises the question how NoSQL databases can be used for OLAP processing and other Business Intelligence tasks. In the paper the author presents the most common types of NoSQL databases, describes MapReduce paradigm and discusses models of OLAP processing for such databases. Finally some preliminary results of aggregation performance in nonrelational environment are presented.

The article presents current status of IT implementation in Polish insurance companies. Afterwards the man issues connected with information management and proposal of dealing with these issues, due to the implementation of Business Intelligence system, is presented. Definition, structure and scope of application as well as the Business Intelligence system implementation methodology, with a particular consideration for the insurance market character, are presented. Article is summed up with examples of effective Business Intelligence systems implementations in selected insurance companies.

The article presents issues connected with processing information from data warehouses (the analytical enterprise databases) and two basic types of analytical data processing in data warehouse. The genesis, main definitions, scope of application and real examples from business implementations will be described for each type of analysis. There will be presented copyrighted method of knowledge discovering in databases, together with practical guidelines for its proper and effective use in the enterprise.
