This study deals with the relation of the Charity to the Catholic Church, which is its founder and is based on the survey conducted on this topic among the employees of the Diocesan Charity Plzen. Results of the above mentioned survey are compared mainly with conclusions of the Pastoral Constitution of the 2nd Vatican council 'Gaudium et Spes' as well as with the Encyclical letter of pope Benedict XVI. 'Deus caritas est'. The result is that employees of the Charity are open to the appropriate pastoral work, which in turn will support the social activities of the Charity as well as its concepts and core values.

The essay is concerned with a transformation of spiritual administration conducted by the Premonstratensians – members of the Strahov monastery at the break of the 18th and 19th century. Although monastic parishes manned by canons had been an everyday reality of the monastery since as early as the post-White Mountain period, their number significantly increased in the researched period. This coincided with a reform of spiritual administration imposed by Joseph II and the superiors’ effort to eliminate disestablishment of the monastery through a broad support of pastoral and pedagogic activities. Besides indisputable benefits, extension of the spiritual administrativ meant a financial and personal burden for the monastery which was firstly connected with administration of the patron rights. Secondly, manning new locations and parishes collided with a decline of monastery members, which did not end until the early 19th century. From a broad perspective, this strategy influenced evolution of the monastic order in the Bohemian lands until the early 20th century.

The aim of the research study is to point out the significance of Cyril and Methodius in the geographical location of the Lithoměřice diocese in the 21st century. Through research, we tried to get an idea of the perception of terms such as the new evangelization, pastoral care, or the importance and priority categorization of Cyril and Methodius among the current residents of the region. The research group consisted of 563 respondents – 37% women (N = 208) and 63% men (N = 355). The age distribution of the research participants was varied and included in several age groups without age restrictions. Regarding the religious structure, 58% (N = 328) of the participants were unaffiliated, 38% (N = 213) claimed to be Christian and 1% (N = 5) Jewish, another religion was defined by 3% (N = 17) of the participants in research. We divided the participants into several groups according to the size of their place of residence. The results of our research point to insufficient knowledge about the significance of Cyril and Methodius and their pastoral and missionary activities.

The study focuses on the theological context of the time period when Josef Hlouch returned to the Diocese of České Budějovice from his internment (1968). This period was strongly influenced by the fact that the Second Vatican Council had just come to an end. The pastoral programme of Josef Hlouch for his further work in the diocese was directly based on the theology of the Council. This can be illustrated by his speech to the diocese priests which he gave on the Feast of the Apostles Peter and Paul.

Systematic theology, in its task of reconstructive appropriation of faith, often depends on practical reflection. Systematic theology, beyond it´s purely selfreferential language and thought games, should also engage in practical mediation problems and not farm them out to practical theology. If for this mediation it is theologically valid that the content of faith cannot be detached from the free acceptance of freely given love and cannot be presented abstractly as deducible truth of reason, then the specific addressees have a constitutive role for the arrival of revelation. This understanding of faith and revelation must be based on reflecting practical theology (such as pastoral care in schools) as a practical science of perception in view of anthropological research and on illuminating the claimed a priori openness of human beings to an ultimate word and for the hearer of the word (Karl Rahner) is not a tabula rasa. Rather, he always already knows something and has always already had experiences. Fundamental theology has a double perspective: it is concerned with the subsequent assurance of faith for those who believe, but also, and especially in the secular space (the school), with making faith possible for those who do not believe and are searching. Here the reference to practice is a primary and receiving as well as stimulating access with that basis of experience, to which also fundamental theology must reflectively refer, if it does not want to lose its character as a science of experience. These constants give food for thought when practical theology (pastoral care in schools) offers a reflective sign-of-the-time experience in the context of fundamental theological responsibility for faith as ancilla hermeneuticae and in the focused view of communion, mystagogy, creation spirituality, religious diversity and art of living.

This study presents and evaluates research interviews with the employees of the Diocesan Caritas Plzen. The purpose of this research was the introduction and deeper understanding of the task of the employees of Caritas in connection with the mission of evangelization. While evaluating the research, the author reaches the conclusion that the work of Caritas should not be just witness to Christ without words, but that it contains also a potential for broader evangelization.

Free time is one of the significant phenomenon of contemporary life. People‘s attitude towards time and leisure is influenced by the Judeo-Christian tradition as well as by contemporary consumer trends. The author builds on the teachings of J. Pieper and R. Bleinstein and seeks to establish the place of leisure in theology. From philosophical reflections about understanding time he moves to topics of social ethics which are linked with the modern concept of leisure. Leisure consequently appears as an area for the realisation of interpersonal relationships as well as for searching for God, as it corresponds with the biblical idea of the Sabbath. At the end of the article the author reflects on pastoral care in the context of a “leisure society”.
