Human aging is a physiological and irreversible process, occurring in many areas of human life: biological, psychological, social. In planning and implementing health care for the elderly the knowledge of the health problems of old age is necessary. In the article we present the influence of the so-called the great geriatric problems on physical fitness, needs and possibilities of rehabilitation of older people. The role of a comprehensive geriatric assessment in the process of medical treatment, including physiotherapy was also discussed. Attention was drawn to the functional tests used in geriatrics as a useful tool in assessing individual health needs of older people. Our goal was to show that a comprehensive geriatric care can not be done without physiotherapist.

The image of disabled people is constantly changing, being shaped by the environment of skilled and specialized.
