Introduction. Pregnancy as a very important period in a woman’s life is also long been interested for men. The modern model of the relationship between parents gave this new dimension, which is reflected in such increasingly common presence of fathers at the birth, or his presence at antenatal courses. Therefore it seemed important to examine the opinion of men about a healthy lifestyle of pregnant women especially that such work does not have excessive much. The aim of this study was to investigate the opinion of men about indicated and not indicated forms of physical activity during pregnancy Material and method. The survey was conducted among students of the University of Management and Administration in Zamość, PKP LHS staff and via the Internet (and eBadania GoldenLine portal), from May to October 2010. In total, 1120 questionnaires were sent, received 170 copies. They came from 170 men aged 21 — 60 years (32.1 ± 9.4), of which 76 are not admitted to the experience of fatherhood. Results. Over half (54%) men, regardless of the personal experience of fatherhood, rated their knowledge about pregnancy as good or very good, and the primary source of information about the pregnancy was the Internet. The vast majority (95%) of respondents positively evaluated the physical activity of pregnant women, while there were large differences between the optimal forms of activity from slow walk (26%) up to very intense exercise (21%). According to respondents, for pregnant women are particularly appropriate swimming (92%), chess (81%) and exercise on a stationary bike (65%). As the effects of a shortage of movement mentioned primarily back pain (81%) and higher striae (75%), slightly less risk of obesity, diabetes and hypertension (65%). However, knowledge of relaxation techniques was small, and as many as 68% of respondents did not performed with his partner even breathing exercises in preparation for childbirth, and 20% performed only exercises in the school childbirth. As many as 64% of respondents stated that a physiotherapist should be involved in preparing for childbirth and postpartum period. Conclusions. A positive assessment of physical activity of pregnant, made by men in comparison with relevant shortcomings of their knowledge about the recommended exercise indicates the need for better health education. It seems that the role of coach and educator could play properly oriented physiotherapist, who would be accepted by most respondents.

The aims of the present empirical study, based on questionnaires filled in by first-time pregnant women, have been to build a complex explanatory model for the period of pregnancy, childbirth and very early infant-caregiver relationship. The main question was whether individual- (e.g. trait anxiety) and psycho-social factors (e.g. own childhood, female sex-roles, support from the partner, desire for the baby) were predictive of interactive characteristics of early postnatal relationship. The present analyses using the method of path-analysis have searched for direct links and indirect paths through the attitude and anxiety towards pregnancy or experiences of childbearing. Data were collected longitudinally by questionnaires from a controlled sample of 78 first-time pregnant women, so the results cannot be generalised for the population. The 13 variables of the model were obtained by principal component-analysis of our own questionnaires and from scales of other standardised and publihed questionnaires (STAI, PAS, MABS). In some cases, data reduction was done to create groups of variables. The statistical model was constructed on the basis of the relationships between the variables of the two study periods, the 26-36 weeks of pregnancy and the first 2 weeks of very early postnatal relationship. Variables at the first level of the model were trait anxiety and psycho-social factors. The second level included anxiety and attitude towards the pregnancy, and at the third level there were the variables describing childbearing experiences and very early dyadic contact after the childbirth. The last, fourth level of the model included the factors of irritability and sociality of the baby, self-confidence of the caregiver, and satisfaction with the changed life-style after childbirth. Without detailing the paths it can be concluded that the parameters of the model (good fit-indexes, significant paths, the explained variance scores of the variables) support the modelled prediction that the early self-confidence of the caregiver can be predicted not only directly by the perceived irritability of the child (as other researches have already shown), but also indirectly by prenatal factors mediated by the attitude towards pregnancy. Thus, prenatal factors may have protective effects counterbalancing risks carried by negative child characteristics.

The Belle Époque was a period, when the topics, that until this moment had been recognised as taboo, entered the literature for example illegitimate children, abandonment of child, abortion and infanticide. The most frequent social problem associated with maternity in that time were unmarried mothers. Usually they originated from working class and were oppressed because they broke customary standard. The paper is about two personages from books written at the end of the 19th century by Polish and Czech women writters. They were interested in the situation of young pregnant and un-married women. Both of them write about transformation of woman’s pregnant body and analyse, how it affects their thinking about maternity and their unborn children. On the other hand, these stories are also about social marginalization of the illegal mothers and about awakening femininity by labour pains. Kaśka Kariatyda written by Polish writter Gabriela Zapolska is primarily a story about negligence of sexual education and pregnancy, which leads up to death of eponymous. As antithesis I choosed novel Vzpoura written by Czech writter, Božena Viková-Kunětická. She was convinced that all women are entitled to maternity, regardless of their marital status. Furthermore, she claimed, that the essential factor of femininity are labour pains, and it is the only way for women to understand themselves.

This study attempts to make more accessible new methods of work with preserved sources of criminal records from the period of the Early Modern Age in the Czech environment. In line with the contemporary direction of Western European historiography, the centre of its attention is not the research of criminality as such but rather that of an actual person who could find themselves ousted to the margins of contemporary society as a result of their transgression. Therefore, one possible example of work with these sources is demonstrated through the focus upon defensive strategies of men and women on the Trebon Estate between 1650-1750.
