The first part of the article focuses on the definition of a digital library and the history of digitization. In the main part of publication the authors presented the Pedagogical Digital Library (PBC) – its beginnings, the characteristics of the collections and the main assumptions. The next part of the article discusses the principles of PBC operation and explains the digitization processes used in the library. The rules of cooperation with other institutions in the matter of supplementing digital collections were also presented. Then the thematic collections comprising the PBC resource are exhaustively described. The focus was primarily on the key collection of the “Museum of the Handbook”. The last section provides basic statistics on the use of PBCs, discusses projects for the development of digital library and plans for the future. Characteristics were based on the website http://pbc.up.krakow.pl (collection layout, statistics, etc.), publicly available sources and on the authors' own experience.

W pierwszej części artykułu przedstawiono definicję biblioteki cyfrowej. W głównej części publikacji autorzy zaprezentowali Pedagogiczną Bibliotekę Cyfrową (PBC) - początki działalności, charakterystykę zbiorów oraz zasady funkcjonowania. W dalszej części omówiono zasady działania PBC i wyjaśniono procesy digitalizacji stosowane w bibliotece. Przedstawiono również zasady współpracy z innymi instytucjami w zakresie uzupełniania zbiorów cyfrowych. Następnie szczegółowo opisano kolekcje tematyczne składające się na zasób PBC. Główny nacisk położono na jedną z kluczowych kolekcji - „Muzeum Podręcznika”. Ostatnia sekcja prezentuje statystyki dotyczące wykorzystania PBC. Artykuł powstał w oparciu o informacje dostępne na stronie internetowej (http://pbc.up.krakow.pl - układ zbioru, statystyki itp.), na podstawie fachowej literatury przedmiotu, dokumentacji wewnętrznej oddziału oraz doświadczeń zawodowych autorów.

The first part of the article presents the definition of a digital library. In the main part of the publication the authors present the Pedagogical Digital Library (PBC) - the beginnings of its activity, the characteristics of the collections and the principles of functioning. In the next part of the article the principles of PBC operation are discussed and the digitization processes used in the library are explained. The principles of cooperation with other institutions are also presented. The following part of the article describes in detail the thematic collections included in the PBC resource. The main emphasis is placed on one of the key collections - the "Museum of the Handbook". The last section presents statistics on the use of PBC. The article is based on the information available on the website (http://pbc.up.krakow.pl - collection layout, statistics, etc.), professional literature, internal documentation of the department, and on the professional experience of the authors.
