Der Artikel befasst sich mit dem Problem der Wertekonflikte und insbesondere mit Fragen wie (1) Was ist ein Wertekonflikt und worin besteht er? (2) Woher kommt die Behauptung, dass es solche Konflikte gibt? (3) Sind diese Konflikte scheinbar oder real? (4) Mit welchen Mitteln können empirische Konflikte beseitigt werden? Die nächsten Schritte der vorgestellten Argumentation bilden eine Ausarbeitung der folgenden Behauptungen: (1) der Wertekonflikt besteht im Ausschluss der Verwirklichung gleichrangiger Werte; (2) der Wertekonflikt ist im Wesentlichen ein Pflichtenkonflikt; (3) der Konflikt in den ersten Prinzipien der Pflichten (die sich in besonderen praktischen Situationen zeigen) entsteht (a) entweder durch die Übernahme eines anderen historischen Ethos in die normative Theorie, (b) oder durch Fehler (Inkonsistenzen) in der Theorie; (4) die Möglichkeiten zur Beseitigung von Pflichtenkonflikten bestehen in der Korrektur der normativen Theorie durch die Einführung notwendiger Meta-Prinzipien. Der Artikel schließt mit der These, dass die Behauptung der Existenz von realen (ontologischen) Pflichtenkonflikten dem Postulat der praktischen Rationalität widerspricht.

The article deals with the problem of conflicts of values and in particular issues such as: (1) what is a conflict of values? (2) what grounds claims about the existence of such conflicts? (3) are these conflicts apparent or real? (4) how can empirical conflicts be resolved? The successive steps of the presented argumentation are a development of the following propositions: (1) a conflict of values consists in the mutual incompatibility of the realization of values of equal strength; (2) a conflict of values is in fact a conflict of duties; (3) a conflict in the first principles of duty (revealed in peculiar practical situations) comes from either (a) the adoption of different historical ethos into a normative theory, or (b) errors (inconsistencies) in the theory; (4) ways of removing conflicts of duty consist in correcting the normative theory by introducing necessary meta-principles to it. At the end of the article, the following thesis is presented: the statement about the existence of real (ontological) conflicts of duty is inconsistent with the postulate of applying practical rationality in practice.

Artykuł dotyczy problemu konfliktów wartości, a w szczególności takich kwestii jak: 1) czym jest konflikt wartości; 2) jakie są źródła twierdzenia o istnieniu takich konfliktów; 3) czy konflikty te są pozorne, czy rzeczywiste; 4) jakimi sposobami można empiryczne konflikty usuwać? Kolejne kroki przedstawionej argumentacji są rozwinięciem następujących twierdzeń: 1) konflikt wartości polega na wykluczaniu się realizacji wartości o równych wysokościach; 2) konflikt wartości jest w istocie konfliktem powinności; 3) konflikt w pierwszych zasadach powinności (ujawniany w osobliwych sytuacjach praktycznych) pochodzi (a) albo z adoptowania do teorii normatywnej różnych historycznych etosów, (b) albo z błędów (niespójności) występujących w teorii; 4) sposoby usuwania konfliktów powinności polegają na korygowaniu teorii normatywnej poprzez wprowadzania do niej koniecznych metazasad. W zakończeniu artykułu zostaje wyeksponowana teza, wedle której twierdzenie o istnieniu rzeczywistych (ontologicznych) konfliktów powinności jest sprzeczne z postulatem stosowania w praktyce racjonalności praktycznej.
