“Cultural Fundamentalism” or “Plurality of Identities”? Answers in fiction by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué and Hans-Christian Andersen The author takes the current discussion about „Cultural Fundamentalism“ on the one hand and a „Plurality of Identities“ on the other hand as a starting point of an unusual interpretation. Thereby, she focuses on two fictional texts: Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué’s "Undine" (1811) and Hans-Christian Andersen’s "The Little Mermaid" (1837), and finds that both poets have a clear opinion about the above mentioned discourse – if one reads the texts as a clash of two different cultures.

Odpowiedzi w formie fikcji literackiej u Friedricha de la Motte Fouqué i Hansa Christiana Andersena Aktualnie prowadzona dyskusja nad „fundamentalizmem kulturowym” i „pluralizmem tożsamości” oraz związane z nią kontrowersje stały się w niniejszym artykule przyczynkiem do dość specyficznej interpretacji dwóch utworów: "Undine" (1811) autorstwa Friedricha de la Motte Fouqué oraz "Mała syrenka" (1837) Hansa Christiana Andersena. Okazuje się przy tym, iż obydwa teksty udzielają własnych odpowiedzi na ową dyskusję – o ile ich baśniową fikcję odczytamy jako swoiste ‘zderzenie kulturowe’.
