Classified online search of telecommunication systems with the use of spyware tools requires comprehensive regulation. On the one hand, it should ensure the balance between an effective legal framework for guaranteeing public security in the online environment and legal regulation, on the other hand — it should respect constitutional norms, in particular the right of the individual to protect privacy, the inviolability of the home and the protection of correspondence. Legal and political consent for such activities requires, however, the creation of institutional, material, legal and procedural guarantees.

The Impossible Trinity of Security, Freedom and Privacy

In Economics, the Impossible Trinity of free capital movement, an independent monetary policy and a stable foreign exchange rate is well known. There is a similar, though less explored trilemma in modern governance operating with more basic concepts: that of security, freedom and privacy. The aim of the study is to clarify this latter trilemma, as well as to offer a theoretical long-term solution. After expounding the general nature of trilemmas and the three main concepts, the impossible trinity of security, freedom and privacy is examined by taking three extreme scenarios. The scenarios are based on partially hypothetical situations in developed countries, where encryption debates or terrorist attacks took place recently. The study then turns to the solution of the situation. In order to understand the origin of the problem, it takes a step back to the dilemma of security and freedom. The fourth important concept the study operates with is transparency. The study suggests increasing transparency. A mathematical projection of the scenarios is introduced, and the suggested solution is derived in an equation as well.

Entering Iranian Homes: Privacy Borders and Hospitality in Iranian Movies

The architecture of homes in Iran has changed significantly over the past four decades since the 1979 Iranian revolution. We ask how these architectural changes shift neighborhood relationships and how they transform the Iranians’ hospitality rituals and practices. We conducted a qualitative content analysis of eighteen Iranian movies filmed after the 1979 revolution. They allowed us to make comparisons among various dwelling patterns and neighborhood relationships. We argue that the representations of neighborhood relationships reflect these changes, demonstrating the impact of architecture on interactions. Our focus in this article is on borders of privacy, power dynamics in the neighborhoods and among families, and communication forms to better understand the impact of changing architecture on hospitality through the lens of cinema. Additionally, we engage with Goffman’s (1956) concepts of frontstage and backstage, demonstrating that these are not dichotomous, although they are opposites, and there can be a thinning of frontstage along with a thickening of backstage. Entrances to homes are often gradual, and visitors may gradually penetrate through layers of the frontstage as they become closer (emotionally and in space) to the heart of the home’s (and its occupants’) backstage.

W niniejszym artykule zaprezentowane zostały wybrane aspekty indywidualnego zarządzania prywatnością w serwisach społecznościowych w odniesieniu do procesów zachodzących w społeczeństwie informacyjnym. W części pierwszej zdefinowano pojęcie indywidualnego zarządzania informacją. Dokonano przeglądu wybranych badań opisujących postawy wobec ochrony prywatności. Następnie opisane zostały wybrane aspekty dotyczące problemu zarządzania prywatnością w serwisach społecznościowych na przykładzie Facebooka.

The article presents some aspects of Personal Privacy Management in social network sites. It has been described in relation to processes taking place in the Information Society. First part consist of the Personal Information Management concept description. Second part shows the role of Facebook in the information society and highlights selected privacy concerns, which are connected with this service.

Platformy nauczania na odległość stały się istotnym elementem propozycji wartości współczesnych uczelni wyższych. Dzięki wykorzystaniu platform zdalnego nauczania można znacząco uatrakcyjnić materiały dydaktyczne, dostosować tempo przyswajania wiedzy do indywidualnych możliwości studentów oraz ciągle udoskonalać proces kształcenia. Do tej pory rozwój tego typu przedsięwzięć skupiał się przede wszystkim na opracowywaniu atrakcyjnych treści, zgodnych z wypracowanymi przez branżę standardami. Często zaniedbywano aspekty bezpieczeństwa informacji i prywatności użytkowników. Wpływa to negatywnie na wykorzystanie przez użytkowników pełnych możliwości platformy i znacznie ogranicza liczbę reakcji sprzężenia zwrotnego. To z kolei stanowi barierę dla prowadzenia szeroko zakrojonych analiz, dzięki którym można podnosić jakość kształcenia. Artykuł prezentuje analizę i krytykę piśmiennictwa dotyczącego tworzenia polityki bezpieczeństwa informacji i prywatności dla rozwiązań nauczania na odległość oraz wskazuje możliwe kierunki działań w tym zakresie.

The contemporary universities use distance learning platforms as an integral ingredient of their value proposition. These solutions can make educational stuff significantly more attractive, adjust the pace of learning and the content to individual students needs and capabilities and enable to constantly improve the university educational processes. So far, the development process of distance learning systems has been focused on improvement of electronic educational materials that comply with distance learning domain standards. Unfortunately to often the issues of information security and users privacy have been neglected. It negatively affects the full usage of platform functionalities by users and constrains the amount of feedback collected by universities. This impact creates the barriers for analytics that can be the driver for improving the quality of education processes. The paper presents the aspects important from the perspective of information security and privacy policy development for distance learning platforms and points to possible courses of action in this area.

Niniejszy artykuł jest próbą analizy narracji zamieszczanych przez użytkowników w półprywatnej przestrzeni Facebooka oraz funkcji tych narracji. Analizie literackiej i celowościowej poddane zostały wypowiedzi kilku użytkowników portalu społecznościowego, którzy w jego ramach prowadzą współnarrację o charakterze miłosnym, która jednakowoż nie ma charakteru intymnego, tylko wymiar publiczny przez publikację komunikatów w przestrzeni dostępnej dla innych użytkowników. Zgodnie z tezą artykułu, tego typu komunikaty mają za zadanie budować narrację w taki sposób, by jej twórcy byli postrzegani jako ludzie sukcesu. Sposób wyrażania uczuć świadczy natomiast o tym, że samo rozumienie miłości uległo racjonalizacji, a spełnienie w tej sferze stało się jednym z atrybutów sukcesu życiowego.

This paper assesses an analysis of narrations posted on the semiprivate space of the Facebook as well as their implicit purpose. We analysed a random sample of texts posted on a social networking website, focussing on their literary aspects and purpose. The authors conjointly work on a narration of amorous character, which, however, is not restricted to the sphere of privacy, but is of public character attributed to the publication in a space open to any other user. As assumed in the starting hypothesis, the main intent of this kind of communication is to steer the plot in such a way that its authors stand out as achievers. The manner of expressing one’s emotions, however, prove clearly, that the understanding of the phenomenon „love“ underwent a process of rationalization and that fulfilment in this sphere of private life is being considered as a mandatory attribute of a successful life.
