The paper aims at investigating the demonstration of Russian intuition in the contemporary Russian speculative fiction. The research thesis is that the Russians, both presented in literature and within the frames of the national character studies, manifest themselves as the intuitive introvert type according to Carl Gustav Jung’s classification. For validating the thesis, as far as the proposed literary works are concerned, one should use the instruments offered by cultural literary criticism along with the support of non-literary disciplines, such as intercultural communication and ethnopsychology. Moreover, one should consider also notes on Russian national character taken by Jung himself as well as studies on the sociocultural aspect of the analysed works. A wide range of methods and perspectives allows deep research of the “feeling – intuitive” Jungian scale as manifested within literary characters representing the Russian element (also called Russianness) in the selected works, which belong to the most significant and/or popular pieces of contemporary speculative fiction in Russia.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza realizacji konceptów rosyjskości i polskości oraz ich konfrontacji w opublikowanej w 1993 roku powieści Wiaczesława Rybakowa Grawilot „Cesarzewicz”. Należący do nurtu historii alternatywnej utwór uka-zuje imperialistyczną wizję Rosji pozostającej przez cały XX wiek monarchią i światową potęgą. Polska wpisuje się w strukturę tekstu nie tylko jako lenne terytorium imperium, lecz także poprzez personalną więź głównego bohatera – gorliwego patrioty – z polską poetką. Przy pomocy metodologii oferowanej przez etnopsychologię oraz komunikację międzykulturową, przede wszystkim komparatystykę osobowości modalnych obu wzmian-kowanych kultur, zostaną zrekonstruowane zawarte w utworze portret typowego Polaka oraz typowego Rosjanina oraz ich wzajemne relacje. To pozwoli na porównanie obrazu tekstowego z rzeczywistością pozatekstową i zinterpretowanie go w kontekście zarówno postrzegania relacji polsko-rosyjskich w pierwszej postsowieckiej dekadzie, jak i dystrybucji władzy w relacjach między bohaterami. Tym samym losy polskiej bohaterki, Stanisławy, można odczytywać jako paralelne wobec projektowanych losów Polski w imperialnym dyskursie: od miłości względem Rosji, poprzez bunt i próby uzyskania niezależności, aż po ostateczną uległości i oddanie.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the concept of Polishness and Russianess in the novel Graviplane “Cesarevich” by Vyacheslav Rybakov. In the story structure Poland plays the role of the empire’s vassal and is shown through the prism of the personal relationship between the protagonist and a Polish poetess. With the help of methods offered by ethnopsychology and intercultural communication. It will be possible to reconstruct the portrait of a typical Polish compared to a typical Russian. Such an approach enables referring to the extratextual world and interpreting the novel within the context of both Polish-Russian relations after the collapse of the USSR and the distribution of power. Thus, the fate of the Polish character can be perceived as a parallel to the projected fate of Poland within the imperial discourse: from love to Russia, through an attempt to regain sovereignty, to the eventual submission.
