Syntaktická operace spojení (merge)

This paper is concerned with the syntactic operation merge. The author proposes a representational-derivational model that can derive non-local relations that are problematic for Chomsky's (2000, et seq.) phase model with the Phase Impenetrability Condition. The problematic non-local relations can be derived in a local fashion if the whole set of information resulting from the operation merge is visible for syntactic operations. To derive the difference in locality behaviour between the operations agree and move, he proposes that for agree, only the information on the sister syntactic object is relevant, and that for move - because it is a composed operation - the tree information with the Phase Impenetrability Condition is also relevant. He also shows that c-selection behaves differently from s-selection and agree with respect to the information given by the operation merge.

This paper presents a specification and peergroup analysis framework for selection of contemporary ERP systems. It contributes practical solution to the problem of ERP package selection. Presented framework is based on three main selection steps: identification of business sector dedicated ERP vendor package, functional and technology fits analysis, with strong consideration of innovation and security issues. It also presents an insight into the future years of ERP developments.

The paper contains the abridged lecture delivered by the invitation of the Hungarian Psychological Association in honour of the bicentennial birthday of Charles Darwin (1809). The results obtained following the examination of the sensations starting from the human small and large intestines have guided the author to the realization of the possibility of rendering conscious the unconscious, through electrophysiologically detectable impulses originating from the gut, by the help of learning. The article is a short summary of the author's theory according to which personal awareness and the non-conscious domain are complementary psychic phenomena steadily in transition from each-other. The twin conscious- unconscious signals can be regarded as important steps in the process of Darwinian selection. They indicate the priority of the human race in evolution and at the same time they represent a stable relief from the burden of adaptation to the natural and social environment. Some of the ideas of the present study have been outlined earlier in this Journal (58 (2003) No.2), as well as in the Hungarian book 'A rejtozködo elme' (The hiding mind', Vince Kiadó, 2004).

The article describes a competency-based interview model. The author defines competencies and provides examples. She also describes the nature of the job interview in the selection process and explains its structure (the particular stages) with a view to optimising the assessment of competencies. A model for asking questions (as well as different types of questions that can be asked) that enables competencies to be assessed is presented. Examples of ineffective questions are also highlighted.

The article focuses on the possibility of the cultivation of biology inspired by the work of biologist A. Portmann. Insight into the problem is to some extent limited to the Czech language area, where Portmann's ideas are relatively well established. The paper analyses the causes of latent tension between so-called Darwinists and Portmannists. There are a lot of misunderstandings at this point. First of all, it must be considered that Portmann didn't disregard Darwin's theory. The aim of the article is to show that Portmann's ideas transcend a traditional Darwinian reduction of a life form to adaptive function. Divergence of these schools of thought comes from different opinions on the nature of science. The paper shows how dissimilarities of aims and means of biological exploration lead to different conclusions about living creatures. For research growing out of Portmann's ideas, it is necessary not to consider Darwinism as a competitor, but as a thought-provoking partner for a dialogue.

The study deals with the psychometric characteristics of the Czech versions of Academic and Social Selection, Optimization, and Compensation (SOC) questionnaires. Self-report data were collected in a sample of 618 university students aged between 19 and 30 years. McDonald’s omega coefficient was used for reliability estimation; construct validity was tested by confirmatory factor analysis and principal component analysis. Criterion validity was tested in a series of regression analyses. The instruments have adequate reliability – 0.73 to 0.84 for Academic SOC and 0.70 to 0.79 for Social SOC scales. Confirmatory factor analysis did not corroborate the original model proposed by Geldhof et al. (2012), except for the Loss-Based Selection factor. Post-hoc exploratory principal component analysis further supported these results. It turned out that the items were clustered according to different criteria compared to the original dimensions. Our results support newer findings, pointing to differences in the structure and employment of SOC strategies in young and older adults. We recommend that the Academic and Social SOC are revised in accordance with these recent findings and other methodological considerations.

Drawing from an ethnography study, this article examines the process of selection in educational settings. Special attention is paid to one elementary school in western part of Slovak Republic. The article outlines how school mechanisms help to shape the social boundaries among pupils and social groups. The article also sheds light on many aspects of social position of Roma pupil. In this context, the text says that Roma pupil position depends on the social space in the school building and interaction of school and non-school settings. The text brings into dialogue various themes on education, social inequality and interethnic relationship. The fieldwork is based on observation and unstructured interviews.
