The article concerns the process of creating and functioning of banking models for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SME) in Poland. The main thesis of the article is the statement that despite significant consolidation changes, the banking sector in Poland was able to propose new innovative models of SME banking, which overcame the most of historical barriers to SME financing. Article distinguishes four fundamental models of SME banking; retail model, diversified platforms model, life cycle model and bond model. Using the banking achievements' assessment a thesis was set up that out of the number of proposed SME banking models, the client-bank bond model should be highly evaluated by SME clients. As author indicates a model used by co-operative financial institutions could achieve high evaluation. To justify this thesis research results were presented, basing on SME clients poll conducted within the framework of 'Business Friendly Bank' Contest in 2004. When analysing high evaluations received by the bond model a probable reason was indicated. The bond model can be perceived as the reaction for extensive standardisation and globalisation in banking (understood as consolidation tendencies) and sometimes as the negation of high technology solutions by the part of more traditional entrepreneurs. However simultaneously the clients' acceptance for new technologies is growing fast in the SME sector.

The article is one in a small cycle of publications in which the author explores legal and economic aspects of operating a business according to EU legislation. In this article, we look at some of the opportunities created by European Private Companies. The implementation of EPC in the EU reveals efforts to unify the organisational principles of the pan-European market. However, it has certain shortcomings typical of EU legislations resulting from the impossibility (or unwillingness) to take measures more radical than those specifi ed in the regulations for legal norms of EU directives. If it were decided that the existence of such bodies were justifi ed (which does not seem that obvious), decree-based measures should be applied – at least to those international entities which operate within member countries. The analysis conducted in the present article takes into consideration detailed rules of authorization, proportions and subsidiarity. Issues under analysis are illustrated by several cases of EU legal resolutions. In the section devoted to economic analysis, we propose a number of solutions which could capitalise on the scope of EPC within Poland’s economic reality.

Micro, small and medium-sized businesses for many years have been neglected. After World War II economy was dominated by large industrial enterprises. This was the result of the prevailing belief that factors such as labor or capital are best used in large-scale production. Only the transition to economy based on knowledge and entrepreneurship, which began in Europe in the late 90's, showed the great importance of to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for economy. The SME sector has a very large impact on the economy, for it creates a large part of GDP, provides employment to many millions of people and is an expression of entrepreneurial activities developing in the economy. Thus the Authors attempted to analyze the SME sector in Poland after joining the European Union.
