Entrepreneurship is widely regarded as the key to economic development. In spite of the crisis is here, more and more companies are established. The aim of this article is the answer the question: does this difficult situation trigger an entrepreneurial spirit, effectively discourage us from taking on new challenges and make us more creative? An important factor creating entrepreneurship in Poland, in times of crisis and economic slowdown is the availability of funds for economic activity. Currently, people who want to start a business in Poland may apply for funds from many sources. The multitude of available resources and growing competition for their acquisition encourage creative people to create their own place in economic reality.

Under the Ministerial Regulation of 2003, pedagogical libraries in Poland are obliged to support school libraries by promoting and assisting in readers’ education and education for media literacy, supporting teachers’ educational efforts, and organising and carrying out educational and cultural activities. The article defines the most important directions of this support, examines the most typical forms of work and presents selected examples of this often nonstandard activity. The author uses information published on the pedagogical libraries’ websites, referring particularly to the 2008–2009 school year, as well as information sent by the libraries. She distinguishes four main types of activities performed by pedagogical libraries for school libraries and librarians: helping solve everyday problems related to library operation; training, mobilising and integrating librarians and teachers, as well as complementing and expanding the informational, didactic and cultural offer of school libraries. The article demonstrates the advantages and importance of the cooperation between pedagogical and school libraries. It also describes the increasing diversity of mutual contacts, which promote the libraries, and show their identity and uniqueness.

Combating symptoms of financial support for terrorism, as well as cutting off resources of terrorist organisations are those methods of fighting terrorism financing which are more and more frequently used. In the Polish legal system, these issues are regulated in the Act on Preventing Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing. A special role has been assigned to direct and indirect control, which is regarded as an effective preventive measure. The article is dedicated to an analysis of the provisions of this act that regulate the status and mandate of bodies established to exercise control in the field. It also describes procedures that are meant to allow for discovering cases of financial support for terrorism.

There is a number of verb-noun combinations which maintain a semantic correspondence with simple verbs (e. g. dar un abrazo — abrazar ‘to give a hug — to hug’). Traditionally, they have been accounted for as consisting of a grammaticalized functional verb which originates from a homonymic main verb, but this kind of account is unsatisfactory. On the one hand, there is no evidence supporting the alleged grammaticalization. On the other, this implies duplicating units and categories. A metaphor-based account, on the contrary, provides a more adequate explanation. First, an ontological metaphor achieves the reification of abstract entities, which then allow for the same kinds of operations as physical objects. This provides a basis for an additional metaphor consisting in some of kind of manipulation. These second-level metaphors do not appear in isolation. Rather, they tend to deploy as consistent networks which develop the original idea. There is no syntactic or lexical innovation. Preexistent units and structures are simply reused through metaphorical extensions which increase polysemy.

The family, traditionally ascribed the task of introducing young people into social life, supporting them in difficult or crisis situations, is presently perceived as helpless in relation to unclear, incomprehensible present and unpredictable future. In the article, the author shows some new areas in which youngsters seek help and support. Community websites and students' blogs are presented as the space in which counseling practice is initiated and realized. It is informal, incidental, often anonymous, noncommittal and available to young people at their 'beck and call'.

After the communist takeover of Czechoslovakia in 1948, Slovaks in the USA and Canada came to the aid of the Roman and Greek Catholic churches in Czechoslovakia, which the communist regime was trying to destroy. They raised funds for the support of Slovak émigré priests in Canada and in Rome, helped fund Vatican Radio broadcasts to Slovakia, helped to publish and smuggle religious publications to Slovakia, and helped to establish the monthly Slovenské hlasy z Rima, the scholarly annual Slovak Studies and the Slovak Institute in Rome. They also agitated for religious freedom in their homeland, for the creation of a Slovak Church Province, and they organized the first anti-government demonstration since 1969 on Good Friday 1988 in Bratislava.
