W artykule przedstawiono sytuację demograficzną Polski. Omówiono koncepcję kapitału ludzkiego i społecznego osób starszych w świetle literatury przedmiotu. na podstawie własnych badań ukazano kapitał ludzki i społeczny seniorów oraz jego wykorzystanie przez dzieci i wnuki. Wyniki badań własnych dowodzą,że najczęściej wykorzystywanym kapitałem osób starszych przez najbliższych jest kapitał materialny. Kapitał niematerialny – mądrość życiowa, doświadczenia, jest rzadziej dostrzegany i wykorzystywany przez najbliższych.

The article presents demographic situation of contemporary societies particularly including demographic situation in Poland and human and social capital of elders. It discusses the concept of human and social capital of seniors in the view of literature. Based on personal research the article reveals human and social capital of seniors and the use of this capital by children and grandchildren of the elders. The results of this research prove that the mostly used capital of seniors by the closest ones is the material capital. Nonmaterial capital manifesting in the possession of life wisdom, experience is much less frequently noticed and used by the closest ones.

The paper focuses on searching for relationships and conditions of the seniors’ status in Slovakia in the context of transformation processes that had significantly weakened their social securities, their meaning of the life and had them shifted into “surviving“. The solution seems to be intergenerational solidarity, using their social capital as a part of own life experiences’ capitalisation process. The standard of living in the EU, achieved health and social standards including the rights to a dignified and full-fledged seniors’ life, are one of basic human rights and its observance should be a legal and moral duty of every democratic country. The authors offer the results of empirical research on the quality of seniors’ life in conditions of Slovak conditions in comparison with the Pan-European area.

The article deals with the educational role of seniors (grandparents) in the family. The aim is to show a specific educative and socializing role in the areas of family upbringing, cultural and social education, religious-moral upbringing and analysis of their rationalized intellectual capital as the wisdom of an old man. The analysis shows that the roles of seniors still have an important educative impact on adolescent grandchildren. Good contacts with grandparents teach teens love and care for each other, learn about family history, traditions and faith at home. They are still the guards of collective memory, family ties, chronicles of history, wisdom of faith, morality and cultural heritage. It is noticed, however, that advice given to the young generation is not for everyone a universal recipe for a happy life.

Artykuł podejmuje tematykę wychowawczej roli seniorów(dziadków) w rodzinie. Celem jest ukazanie konkretnie wychowawczej i socjalizacyjnej roli w obszarach: wychowanie w rodzinie, wychowanie kulturowe, wychowanie społeczne, wychowanie religijno-moralne oraz analiza ich kapitału intelektualnego racjonalizowanego, jako mądrość starca. Z analizy wynika, że role seniorów nadal mają ważny wpływ wychowawczy na dorastających wnuków. Dobre kontakty z dziadkami uczą nastolatków miłości i troski o drugiego człowieka, poznania historii rodziny, tradycji i wiary w domu. Wciąż są jeszcze strażnikami: pamięci zbiorowej, więzi rodzinnych, kronikarzami historii, mądrością wiary, moralności i dziedzictwa kulturowego. Zauważa się jednak, iż rady udzielane młodemu pokoleniu nie dla wszystkich stanowią uniwersalną receptę na szczęśliwe życie.

This article is an analysis of the social policy of practical activities implemented for seniors in the environment of their local residence. Tarnów was chosen as the local environment, in which seniors are the majority of the population. It discusses the principles of social policy, the resources of the Tarnów local government, activities and initiatives for seniors in Tarnów as well as the objectives and tasks of the Tarnów local government implemented in 2015–2020 The analysis of social policy shows that the local government authorities in Tarnów organized many valuable and good initiatives for the benefit of seniors. This is demonstrated by the cafeteria of activities undertaken by social institutions (state and local government), non-governmental organizations, religious associations (church), and other economic entities (enterprises and business). However, there are some lacunae, especially in the area of care standards.

Artykuł analizuje teorie wartości trzech klasyków: Williama Nassaua Seniora, Claude’a Frederica Bastiata oraz Henry’ego Charlesa Careya. Wszyscy oni stworzyli własne koncepcje wartości, nie wzorując się na dorobku Adama Smitha. Byli apologetykami gospodarki kapitalistycznej i uważali, że jest to najlepszy system ekonomiczny. Ich oryginalne teorie wartości zadecydowały o tym, że zalicza się ich do tzw. nurtu czystego w szkole klasycznej.

This article analyzes three classics theories of value – William Nassau Senior, Claude Frederic Bastiat and Henry Charles Carey. All they have created their own concepts of values, they not modeled on Adam Smith achievements. They were not capitalist economy apologetics and they thought, that this economic system is the best. They original theories of value decided to include them to so called clean trend in classical school.

Rosnąca liczba osób w wieku senioralnym sprawia, że konieczne staje się tworzenie systemu działań aktywizujących tę grupę społeczną. Wśród form zajęć przedłużających sprawność seniorów wymienia się także kontakt z literaturą. Ośrod-kami propagowania czytelnictwa są biblioteki, które organizują spotkania autorskie i wystawy, zakładają Dyskusyjne Kluby Książki promujące czytanie, inicjują kon-takty z „książką mówioną” wśród osób niedosłyszących.W działalności Dyskusyjnych Klubów Książki niezwykle ważny jest dobór stosownej literatury dla osób starszych. W artykule podano propozycje kilku tytu-łów książek z uzasadnieniem wyboru oraz ciekawych zajęć poszerzających typową dyskusję.Przed bibliotekami stoją duże wyzwania. Wprowadzane metody upowszechnia-nia czytelnictwa obejmują ciągle zbyt małe grono czytelników i słuchaczy. Istnieje potrzeba tworzenia międzypokoleniowych grup czytelniczych, by uświadomić społe-czeństwu, że do starości należy się przygotować.

The rising number of seniors in the society forces the state to engage in creating activities which would motivate and activate this social group. The vari-ous forms of such activities meant to extend the mental and physical faculties among the senior citizens have been the subjects of an ongoing multidisciplinary effort, and contact with literature has been one such activity meant to stimulate the mental fac-ulties. Libraries, as centers for the propagation of readership, organize book signings and readings, exhibitions and, first and foremost, create Book Clubs, which serve to talk about literature and promote reading as well as facilitate the contact with “the spoken book” for the people with hearing impairments. Those Book Clubs require help with the selection of literature suitable to the seniors. The article recommends several titles alongside with the justification for the choice, as well as a selection of activities meant to facilitate further discussion. Libraries are facing difficult challenges. The implemented methods of reading popularization do not reach a wide enough audience. Moreover, it is crucial to form multigenerational reading groups in order to make the society realize that old age requires preparation.
