It has been very rare to start analyzing the post-communist transformation from the Solidarity movement. Neither the conceptual achievements, nor the social dimension of this popular collective experience has been treated as a valuable resource for the new post-communist project. Historical sociology can provide inspiration in the form of methodological proposals and stimulate reflection by giving a framework of interpretation to explain the processes. Extending the model by incorporating the perspective of vast social processes of modern history of Western Europe will enrich the interpretations of Polish social and cultural change since 1980.

Do historycznego punktu startowego przemian ustrojowych, jakim był ruch Solidarności, sięga się w refleksji nad polską transformacją bardzo rzadko. Ani dorobek koncepcyjny, ani wymiar społeczny tego fenomenu nie został zaliczony do wartościowych zasobów nowego projektu ustrojowego. Wyjaśnienie natury tych procesów przez osadzenie ich w kontekście historycznym jest elementem niezbędnym do zrozumienia zmiany systemowej. Socjologia historyczna może dostarczyć inspiracji w postaci propozycji metodologicznych i może pobudzać rodzimą refleksję nad wychodzeniem z komunizmu przez proponowanie ram interpretacyjnych i sposobów wyjaśniania tych wydarzeń. Poszerzenie perspektywy przez włączenie modelowych procesów społecznych z nowożytnej historii Europy Zachodniej wzbogaci interpretacje naszych przemian społecznych i kulturowych od 1980 r.
