The article deals with the iconography of St. Augustine of Hippo in medieval Bohemian art up to the Hussite Wars. The text represents the first attempt of explaining the beginnings of the cult of St. Augustine in the 12th-century Bohemian Lands and also focuses on the oldest depictions of St. Augustine in illuminated Bohemian manuscripts and wall paintings until the year 1420. The paper provides some iconographic details while examining the most relevant examples of the Bohemian depictions and also informs about the earliest examples and gradual dominance of the new iconographic type of St. Augustine as a bishop which replaced the older types of St. Augustine portrayed as an author or a monk.

W przedstawionym artykule zostało omówione nauczanie św. Augustyna na temat pokoju jako daru Chrystusa. Zbawiciel, odchodząc ze świata, pozostawił ludziom dar pokoju. To dzięki temu darowi, zgodnie z nauczaniem św.

The article discusses the teaching of St. Augustine on the subject of peace as a gift of Christ. As he was leaving the world, the Savior gave people the gift of peace. According to the teaching of St. Paul in Eph 2:14, it is due to this gift that the harmony between the human spirit and body are restored. It is also possible to reconcile Jews, represented by the shepherds coming to adore the newborn Christ baby, and Gentiles, represented by the Magi arriving from the East. Yet earthly peace is not a perfect peace, for man gives in to lusts, comes into conflict with his neighbors, and suffers from many shortcomings in everyday life. However, none of this should discourage anyone from seeking peace. St. Augustine thinks that Jesus' disciples ought to strive for peace, since peace is the surest way to achieve the perfect peace of eternal life. There, there will be no more conflicts but a constant closeness to God.

The collections in Croatian churches and monasteries keep treasure of outstanding cultural and historical value, which is still waiting to be studied, properly evaluated and published. Among just such precious items is a composite, acephalic and lacunose manuscript codex from the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, which is kept in the treasury of Split Cathedral (626 C). Although it is handsome, rich in various data and very interesting, in the last hundred or so years since it was rediscovered, it has not attracted any great attention from the cultural or the scholarly public. Here is set out a codicological description listing all the anomalies and damages, established the contents and authorship of the texts; at the end some assumptions and arguments backing them up will be put forward as well as some indications of its subsequent fortune.
