The technical and technological expansion of man in the nature environment constitutes an important component of ecological debate. The debate shows the initial confrontation of the antagonized positions. The radical critics of technology rejected the then contemporary technical and industrial system and supported “alternative technology”, whereas the radical promoters of this system represented a naive belief in the unlimited progress of science and technology. After some time this debate was enriched by a new idea: sustainable development. It proposes seeking new solutions to the technical and technological presence of man in the natural environemnet. These solutions are expressed by a proportionally balanced synthesis of both positions. The purpose should be to find a way that would be a compromise between the development of technology and the demands of nature.

Many forensic manuals have been published in the last years. From the scientific and didactic point of view they are of different value. However, all their authors aimed at describing tactical and technical methods used in detecting processes. Against that background an idea to look through older manuals in that field was engendered. From among only a few books dating back almost 80 years, a 400-page handbook by a practitioner and trainer, a gendarmerie major Kazimierz Chodkiewicz, was chosen. The analysis of the manual revealed many interesting and also relevant views on criminality and methods of fighting against it. Modus operandi of many categories of criminals of the time and basic detecting activities from scene of crime examination to various ways of interrogation were described in it in detail. The author based many hints and pieces of advice on his experience, of course transforming it for the needs of training. The quoted manual skillfully linked forensic matters with criminological ones. There are noticeable differences between former and present criminality threats but many of the described methods, especially those of a tactical character, are still relevant and useful in the field of prosecution practice today.

Father Piotr Cholewka was born in 1922 in a Silesian village of Marciszow near Zawiercie. In 1925, his family emigrated to Barlin in northern France. In 1943 he entered the Benedictine monastery of Wisques. In 1961, a papal indult authorized him to pursue studies and work outside the cloister. He took on stained glass in 1953. He used traditional techniques and employed reinforced concrete to hold the pieces of glass together (dalle de verre), while also creating in synthetic materials, such as polystyrene. Most of his works date back to the period between 1955 and 1963, and with the exception of a few early designs, the majority are abstract. His stained-glass windows can be found in fifty churches, mainly in France and Belgium. In Poland, he first appears in 1992 to present exhibitions of his creative output of 40 years entitled Beauty Shall Save the World. Their purpose is to show contemporary art, understood as abstract representation whose meaning and content is hidden under a composition of colourful blots. The only ensemble of stained-glass windows by Father Cholewka to be found in Poland is that present in the church of Saint John the Baptist in Kupno, near Kolbuszowa, produced between 1997 and 1998.

A power since ever belongs to the central topics of social thought. Sovereignty, military and economic rule, influence, wealth, fame are universally attractive. People want to possess the power but the power possesses the people: both individual and societal consciousness refers to the ratio; nonetheless, both power and erotic upsurge from the unconsciousness directing the culture, civilization and technique. Nietzsche´s “will to power” corresponds to the theories accentuating the interdependence of power and erotic. The mechanisms of power are gradually developing in the course of history by the progress of knowledge and social organization. Intellect, emotion, language, art – no fundamental values can elude neither the functions of the instruments of power nor the violence of power. Embodiment of power and erotic in human being therefore is the target of organizational efforts to control the individual and the society.

The author focuses attention on the importance of the piano textbook Anweisung zum PianoForte-Spiel by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1828). Associating himself with the bel canto technique and Mozart’s poetics, Hummel enriched the repertoire with pianistic figures and created a specific lyric-cantabile idiomatic, which had a marked influence on the generation of early romantics. The author defines the status of Hummel ś textbooks in the field of the 18th - the 19th century. Particular attention is devoted to comparison with Franz Paul Rigler, from whom Hummel borrowed a number of examples, and also to comparing the performance ideals of Hummel and Beethoven, which became the basis for the paradigm of a new aesthetic ideal of piano playing, represented by Fryderyk Chopin and Franz Liszt. While Hummel gave essential stimuli to Chopin, Liszt took his inspiration rather from the poetics of Beethoven.
