Public transport in Sweden plays an important role. According to authorities it is a part of natural travel in sustainable society. A doubling of the public transport market share creates values for passengers among others by fulfilling their mobility needs and produces major advantages for society, among others costs less to the community, pollutes less, is the safest mode, improves accessibility to job.

Polska i inne kraje Unii Europejskiej stoją przed wyzwaniem dotyczącym wdrażania pojazdów elektrycznych. Tematem artykułu są kwestie ekonomiczne i społeczne, jakie muszą zostać ustalone w procesie implementacji napędu elektrycznego w motoryzacji. Dokonano przeglądu dokumentów strategicznych oraz światowych publikacji przedmiotowych i na ich podstawie zdefiniowano dylematy ekonomiczne procesu rozwoju elektromobilności. W artykule zwrócono także uwagę na społeczne aspekty tego procesu, zwłaszcza w zakresie akceptacji społecznej innowacyjnej technologii. Wskazano, że rozwój elektromobilności może wspomóc pogłębienie społecznej odpowiedzialności biznesu w aspekcie ochrony środowiska naturalnego przez branżę motoryzacyjną.

Poland and other European Union countries face the challenge of the electric vehicles’ implementation. Social and economic challenges that must be solved in the process of electric vehicles’ implementation in the automotive industry are in the scope of the article. Basing on the review of the strategic documents and papers published worldwide, economic dilemmas of the electromobility development process are defined. Attention was also paid to the social aspects of this process, especially in terms of social acceptance of the innovative technology. It is indicated that the development of electromobility can assist in deepening the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in terms of environmental protection by the automotive industry.

The paper deals with the problem of passenger transport interconnectivity in the European Union. Suboptimal transport solutions exist in multimodal passenger transport mainly due to the barriers at interconnection points. In the paper possible scenarios resulting from reduction of those interconnection costs are analysed and described together with preconditions and tools required for optimisation of interchanges.

The article shows the importance of transport policy issues in the development of transport systems. Author selected the information related to the establishment of a common transport policy of the European Union. Particular emphasis was put on the Polish transport policy and its priorities. Discusses the most important legislation for the Polish transport policy and the objectives and directions of its development is shown.

Until the nineties of the twentieth century Upper Silesian tram operations were financed through self-ticketing and donations from the national budget, allowing to maintain a stable service without municipal subsidies. Since 2000 the tramway company is contracted to local public transport organizer (the association of municipalities - KZK GOP), receiving fees for their operational work (contractual rate for vehiclekilometer). Tram company revenues no longer depend on revenue from tickets. Management problems and the adverse resolution of the dispute with Alstom company led local tram system to the brink of bankruptcy. The importance of tram, which was the essential mode ofpublic transport in the Upper Silesian agglomeration over the twentieth century, has been deprecated as a result of transport policies. Since the end of the twentieth century, the authorities allocate almost all available funds for development of road transport and its infrastructure. After 20 years of Poland's economic transformation tram offer in Katowice agglomeration became generally less attractive than in the past and some tramlines disappeared replaced by less frequent bus service.

The main goal of this article is to verify the functioning in practice the policy of public transport development in selected cities in Poland, through the strategic documents such as Integrated Public Transport Development Plan. The author carried out comparative analysis of documents for the selected cities in Poland, referring them to the present functioning and organization of public transport in these cities. These documents should indicate ways to integrate the various modes of transport, define measures of efficiency of the realization of transport services and the organization and functioning of public transport in cities. Moreover, they should function as strategic assumptions for the individual cities. It is important, from the point of view of the author, to examine the basic assumptions as well as the measures of efficiency of transport functioning which are based on the above plans and consequently the answer to the question- Are Integrated Public Transport Development Plans real determinant of transport policy in Polish cities?

Road accidents are generating economic and public high costs. They include: losses resulting from the long-lasting or temporary impossibility of creating GDP, expenses on the treatment and rehabilitation of people injured in the accidents, costs of emergency services involvment, payment of compensations and benefits, financial losses or emotional suffering of the accidents' victims and perpetrators' relatives, leading to reduce their economic activity. Statistical data presented in the point out to the high risk of road accidents. Also causes of unsatisfactory level of the road safety improvement in Poland were presented.(original abstract)

The Author recognizes basic patterns of directions and intensity of commuting to employment in Poland. In this regard, the matrix of gminas' inter-flow data on employees for 2006, provided by the Center for Urban Statistics of the Statistical Office in Poznan. To determine the characteristics and regularity of these differences, categorization of cities and municipalities were used, distinguished on the basis of administrative and functional settlement, including the largest cities in suburban areas. Studies have established the numerical values of displacements between the different categories of municipalities. Furthermore, the analysis of commuting distance, identified i.a. regions of the country with a high number of trips to distant work places. Proposals are formulated for regional policy and further research on commuting. (original abstract)

Presentation of the dissertation on the impact of the EU transport policy on the reduction of the development gap between EU member states. The issue will be outlined in the context of legal solutions, divided by different types of transport, such as waterway, rail, road and air transport. Moreover, the impact of transport policy on the economy including investments in transport infrastructure will be analysed. Przedstawienie problematyki dysertacji o wpływie polityki transportowej UE na zmniejszanie różnic rozwojowych państw UE. Zagadnienia zostają naszkicowane w kontekście rozwiązań prawnych z podziałem na poszczególne typy transportu, tj. wodny, kolejowy, drogowy i lotniczy oraz wpływu założeń polityki transportowej na gospodarkę wraz z inwestowaniem w infrastrukturę transportową.

Providing equal accessibility for all groups of users, including invalids, is one of major challenges for contemporary public transportation systems. The aim of this article is to present, using case of Warsaw, opportunities for cooperation between local government and nongovernmental organizations to create transport policy considering specific needs of all groups of passangers.

Since the time the investments in infrastructure are realized in Poland within the common transport policy, the changes in this area of Polish economy have been profound. The TEN-T program defines the investments, determining priorities among chosen roads and routes. nonetheless, the changes within transport infrastructure do not leave other economy branches unchanged. On the contrary, they boost the development of the areas they are implemented. The hereby article tries to define and to present the type and the dimension of changes created under the influence of the changing transport conditions in Poland .

The main objective of the article is to point to the necessity of changes in the approach to transport systems and the ways of analyzing and diagnosing problems within them, irrespective of the level - local, regional, national or international. Heading towards the objective, the author focuses on presenting conditions and global civilization trends which create new perspectives of economic development, yet providing that decision makers will see the ever-growing role of logistics at the macroeconomic scale; they will discard their narrow view through the transport sector and look toward the logistic sector; and they will replace traditional transport policy with logistic policy.

The activity of non-profit organizations is a part of the civil society development. Transport is the sector of an economy in which the great collaboration potential exists among the official authority and organizations of the third sector. The article presents the results of questionnaire survey conducted by the Transport Department of the University of Economics in Katowice in 2012 amongst Polish non-profit organizations focusing on transport. Based on achieved results principal areas of activity of these organizations were recognized. It was also possible to make the attempt of the evaluation of the relationship between non-profit organizations and subjects of the transport policy of different ranks.
