The article deals with the participation and activities of the Border Protection Troops (Wojska Ochrony Pogranicza, WOP), which formed part of the Polish Army’s commitment to the Warsaw Pact during the 1968 suppression of the Czechs and Slovaks. This event was known as the Prague Spring and was intended to bring democratic change to Czechoslovakia. Border Protection Troops, especially those stationed at the Polish-Czechoslovak border, were involved from the very beginning of the operation. The author presents the tasks carried out by line units of this formation before and during operation „Danube”, and also discusses the information provided by the WOP that was gained through reconnaissance conducted in the region of the Polish-Czechoslovak border. This information was sent to the highest party and state authorities in the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of the Interior in the form of situational reports. This allowed them to take the appropriate propaganda and political action to prevent the Prague Spring from being successful.

Dieser Artikel befasst sich mit der Beteiligung der Grenzschutztruppen (Wojska Ochrony Pogranicza, WOP) an den Vorbereitungen und Aktivitäten der polnischen Armee im Rahmen der Operation der Warschauer-Pakt-Staaten zur Niederschlagung des Freiheitsaufstands der Tschechen und Slowaken im Jahr 1968, der als Prager Frühling bekannt wurde. Er sollte den Völkern der Tschechoslowakei einen demokratischen Wandel bringen. WOP, insbesondere ihre Einheiten zum Schutz der polnisch-tschechoslowakischen Staatsgrenze, waren von vorneherein an diesen Ereignissen beteiligt. Der Autor schildert die Aufgaben, die die Linieneinheiten dieser Formation vor und während der Operation „Donau” erfüllten, aber auch die Informationen, die die WOP-Aufklärungseinheiten während der Operationen im polnisch-tschechoslowakischen Grenzgebiet lieferten. Diese Informationen wurden in Form von Lageberichten an die höchsten Partei- und Staatsorgane im Verteidigungs- und Innenministerium weitergeleitet. Sie ermöglichten es ihnen, geeignete propagandistische und politische Maßnahmen zur Beendigung des Prager Frühlings zu ergreifen.

W artykule poruszono problematykę udziału Wojsk Ochrony Pogranicza (WOP) w przygotowaniach i działaniach Wojska Polskiego w operacji państw Układu Warszawskiego dławiącej w 1968 r. zryw wolnościowy Czechów i Słowaków, znany pod nazwą Praska Wiosna. Miał on przynieść narodom Czechosłowacji demokratyczne zmiany. Wojska Ochrony Pogranicza, a szczególnie ich jednostki ochraniające polsko-czechosłowacką granicę państwową, zaangażowane były od samego początku tych wydarzeń. Autor przedstawił zadania, jakie realizowały jednostki liniowe tej formacji przed i w czasie operacji „Dunaj”, ale także jakich informacji dostarczał zwiad WOP, prowadząc działalność operacyjną na polsko-czechosłowackim pograniczu. Informacje te trafiały do najwyższych władz partyjnych i państwowych w MON i MSW, w postaci meldunków sytuacyjnych pozwalały im na podejmowanie odpowiednich działań propagandowych i politycznych mających powstrzymać Praską Wiosnę.
