Temat kryzysu Kościoła i łącząca się z nim kwestia odnowy stale powraca. Współczesny świat i społeczeństwo domagają się uzasadnienia obecności Kościoła we wszystkich sferach życia. Niemiecki teolog, podejmując refleksję nad tą problematyką, czyni to w sposób uporządkowany, twórczy i pozytywny. Autor artykułu, analizując myśl W. Kaspera, bazuje głównie na dwóch pozycjach Die Kirche Jesu Christi. Schriften zur Ekklesiologie I oraz Kościół Katolicki. Istota, rzeczywistość, posłannictwo. W prezentowanym artykule autor, wychodząc od tekstów teologa z Tübingen, opisuje współczesne społeczeństwo i świat w którym znajduje się Kościół. Następnie omawia pięć dróg dla Kościoła przyszłości, który powinien być: (1) zdecydowany, (2) otwarty, (3) współodpowiedzialny, (4) ekumeniczny, (5) zaangażowany społecznie.

The crisis of the Church and its relative issue of renewal is a recurring subject. The contemporary world and society demand a justification for the Church’s presence in all the aspects of life. The German theologian, in undertaking a reflection on these issues does so in an orderly, creative and positive way. The author of this article bases his analysis of the thought of W. Kasper on two sources: Die Kirche Jesu Christi. Schriften zur Ekklesiologie I, as well as The Catholic Church. Essence, Reality, Commission. In presenting this article, the author draws from the texts of the Theologian from Tubingen in presenting a description of the contemporary society and the world, in which the Church finds itself. Then, the author discusses five courses the future Church can take in order to be: (1) resolute, (2) open, (3) accountable, (4) ecumenical, and (5) socially engaged.

The topic about ‘The Problem of God’ (die Gottesfrage) is one of the most important discussions for contemporary dogmatic theology and theology in general. The thought of Walter Kasper, who this year is celebrating his 90th birthday, is characterised by a creative and open-minded approach to contemporary challenges. This article analyzes Kasper’s reflection on ‘The Problem of God’ based on three monographs of the German cardinal: ‘Jesus der Christius’, ‘Der Gott Jesus Christi’ and ‘Katholische Kirche. Wesen – Wirklichkeit – Sendung’. The first part of the article presents selected topics of Kasperʼs Christology. The next part analyzes the causes of the current crisis of faith in God and the solutions proposed by the German theologian as a response to modern atheism. In the last part, the subject of reflection is the Church, which, according to Kasper, is to effectively make present in history the salvific work of Jesus Christ and be an icon of the Holy Trinity.

Our masters, next to which we grew up, and certain environments that have formed – on many levels – not only our consciousness, but even the methodology of our thinking and activities, play a very significant role in the shaping the way we look at and understand the world, and the ideas, which we adhere to. Cardinal Walter Kasper repeatedly relied in his works on his spiritual relationship with the principles of Catholic school in Tübingen of the nineteenth century, considering it as an outstanding model for attachment to ecclesiastical tradition and at the same time for the openness to the dialogue with the contemporary world. This text presents one of the theological principles of the school in Tübingen – dialogical openness of the theology to the contemporary issues – in the work and thought of Cardinal Walter Kasper.

Representatives of contemporary Christian apologia evaluate enlightenment in different ways. Three basic trends developed among them. One of them, the trend of negation, rejects the age of reason as such, emphasizing, above all, the disastrous consequences of the ideologies that derive from it. Another trend of acceptance emphasizes the Enlightenment sources of the idea of human rights and the democratic system. Finally, the trend of balance combines both approaches, developing a reflection on the errors of the age of reason, yet not avoiding the need for dialogue. The aim of the work is to present these three concepts, indicating the last one as adopted by the new apologia whose renaissance we are currently observing.
