Celem artykułu jest pokazanie drogi przemiany duchowej Edyty Stein (świętej Teresy Benedykty od Krzyża) – fenomenolożki światła, karmelitanki bosej, patronki Europy. Transformacja ta dokonała się przede wszystkim dzięki lekturze i analizie książek filozoficznych, religijnych, literackich, które były podstawą szukania odpowiedzi na pytania ontologiczne w drodze poszukiwania i znalezienia prawdy absolutnej. Wybory czytelnicze E. Stein, analiza wybranych jej lektur, ich odbiór i wpływ na przekonania karmelitanki stały się przedmiotem niniejszego tekstu.

The aim of this article is to show the way of spiritual transformation of Edith Stein (Saint Teresa Benedict of the Cross) – the phenomenologist of light, the barefoot Carmelite, the patroness of Europe. This transformation took place mainly thanks to reading and analyzing philosophical, religious and literary books, which were the basis for searching for answers to ontological questions by searching and finding the absolute truth. E. Stein’s reading choices, the analysis of her selected readings, their reception and influence on the Carmelite’s convictions have become the subject of this text.
