Celem artykułu jest zbadanie, czy sekty są obecnie jednym z największych zagrożeń dla współczesnego człowieka, a przy tym dostarczenie informacji niezbędnych w rozpoznawaniu pojawiających się zagrożeń oraz projektowaniu i realizowaniu działań zapobiegawczych. Artykuł zawiera również dane na temat powstawania i funkcjonowania sekt jako zbiorowości wywierających wpływ na osoby podatne na sugestie. Ma on zwrócić uwagę na fakt, że styl życia proponowany człowiekowi przez sekty często jest odpowiedzią na jego niezaspokojone indywidualne potrzeby i oczekiwania, zazwyczaj niedostrzegane przez najbliższe otoczenie. Artykuł ma charakter informacyjno-profilaktyczno-pomocniczy.

The objective of this article is to investigate if sects are really one of the greatest threats to the contemporary man. At the same time, the article aims to provide information required for the identification of the emerging threats, as well as information necessary to design and implement preventive action. The article addresses data about the creation and workings of sects as collectives that influence susceptible people. The article’s objective is to draw attention to the fact that most of the time, the lifestyle suggested by sectarians is the answer to an individual’s unfulfilled needs and expectations, usually unrecognized by the closest environment. The article is of informative, preventive, and auxiliary nature.
