The main objective of the article is to draw attention to the selected issues for the discussion on the future of sociology in the context of three phenomena: (1) its popularization as a field of study, (2) the implementation of three-cycle sociological studies, in particular first-cycle studies as higher vocational training courses, and (3) potential employment opportunities for sociology graduates on the growing market for social research. The first part of the article includes a diagnosis of the situation faced by sociology in Poland at the beginning of the 21st century. The change in the nature of social studies from the elite to the popular ones, ‘commercialization’ of academic staff and its multi-employment, transformation of university curricula and developing it according to National Qualifications Framework marked the clear beginning of changes within sociology. The other part of the article shows one of the possible directions of the development of applied sociology, taking into account changes on the educational and labour market. It discusses the demand for social research, including evaluation studies.

Podstawowym celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na wybrane kwestie do dyskusji nad przyszłością socjologii w kontekście trzech zjawisk: (1) jej umasowienia jako kierunku studiów, (2) realizacji trzystopniowego modułu studiów socjologicznych, w szczególności I stopnia jako studiów zawodowych oraz (3) potencjalnych możliwości zatrudnienia absolwentów socjologii na rozwijającym się rynku badań społecznych. W pierwszej części artykułu dokonano diagnozy sytuacji, w jakiej znalazła się socjologia w Polsce u progu XXI wieku. Zmiana charakteru studiów socjologicznych z elitarnych na masowe, „merkantylizacja” kadry naukowej i jej wieloetatowość, przeobrażenia programów kształcenia na studiach i opracowanie ich zgodnie z Krajowymi Ramami Kwalifikacji były wyraźnym początkiem zmiany dokonującej się w obrębie socjologii. W drugiej części artykułu wskazano jeden z możliwych kierunków rozwoju socjologii stosowanej z uwzględnieniem zmian na rynku edukacyjnym i rynku pracy. Mowa tu o zapotrzebowaniu na badania społeczne, w tym na badania ewaluacyjne.
