Jan Duklan Michnar belonged to the most outstanding fathers of the Blessed Virgin Mary Immaculate Conception Order of Friars Minor Province in the 20th century Poland. He was recognized as a great preacher and a prolific feature writer who left a considerable amount of literacy works. This article’s author aimed at showing Jan Duklan Michnar’s profile and to discuss some of his religious publications, as well as his numerous homiletic works whose typescripts are deposited in the Province Archives in Kraków. Jan Duklan Michnar was a well-educated specialist in Polish studies, whose passion was general history. After graduation, he was directed to the Serafic College in Radecznica, where he was a Polish language and history lecturer, being the College director at the same time. Jan Duklan’s articles written to Franciscan magazines can be divided into two groups: the first one created in the years of 1923 – 1939 and the second one created in the years of 1956–1966. The keynote of the first group articles was emphasizing the Franciscan and tertiary ideas as well as a widely recognized spiritual-moral background of the readers, who were ley people in their majority. In 1956 Father Duklan’s articles started to appear in ‘Serafic Youth’ (‘Młodzież Seraficka’) and in ‘Vita Provinciae’. Those were mainly his reminiscenses written on various anniversaries celebrated in the Province or to familiarize the young generation with the Observants monks, important events or significant persons. Father Jan Duklan left over thirteen volumes of sermons and homiletic works which can be regarded as his preaching activity and his priesthood summary. His homiletic works were mainly based on Marian teaching.

Sześćdziesiąt lat istnienia (1956-2016) Katedry Statystyki Matematycznej to szmat czasu. Jej działalność wpisuje się niemal od samych początków w funkcjonowanie nowopowstałej Wyższej Szkoły Rolniczej w Krakowie, która datuje swe początki na rok 1953. Szkoła ta bazuje na pracownikach wywodzących się z kadr Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Z tego też uniwersytetu pochodzi założyciel i twórca Katedry prof. zw. Stefan Schmidt. Kolejnym kierownikiem Jednostki zostaje doc. dr hab. Jan Pociej (1964-1987). Od 1992 roku do chwili obecnej Katedrą kieruje prof. zw. dr hab. Karol Kukuła. W tym okresie powstaje wiele prac naukowych: monografii, artykułów i podręczników o zasięgu ogólnokrajowym. Od 2015 roku nazwa Katedry zostaje zmieniona na Katedrę Statystyki i Ekonometrii.

Sixty years of the existence (1956 – 2016) of the Department of Mathematical Statistics makes a long period of time. The activity of this department begins with the very beginning of functioning of the Higher Agricultural School in Krakow that is from the year of 1953. This school is based on the foundations of the employees of the Jagiellonian University. This is also the mother university of the founder and creator of this Department, Prof. Stefan Schmidt. The subsequent Head of the Department is the Assistant Professor Jan Pociej (1964 – 1987). Since 1992 up to now the Head of the Department has been Prof. Karol Kukuła. Within this period many original scientific works have been written – monographs, articles and textbooks spread out throughout the country. Since 2015 the name of the Department has been changed into the Department of Statistics and Econometrics.

Among the people who explored Central Asia in the second half of the 19th century, there was quite a large group of Catholic priests. Some of them were sent there as exiles – but once there, they continued their pastoral service, while others were sent for this specific purpose. Both carefully watched this part of the world, traversing Kazakhstan during their numerous pastoral trips to various parishes. As a result of repression in the form of exiles and the voluntary migration of Europeans, the Catholic community in Central Asia grew throughout the 19th century. The number of Catholic parishes spread over a huge area also increased. Visiting priests took notes from their travels, wrote memoirs or articles that were later published in European magazines. The article presents the activities of four Catholic priests: Walery Gromadzki, Mateusz Wejt, Leon Czudowski and Justyn Pranajtis, whose accounts and descriptions of Central Asia are an extremely interesting, though not fully used by researchers, historical source.

Wśród osób, które w II połowie XIX wieku eksplorowały tereny Azji Środkowej, była całkiem liczna grupa księży katolickich. Niektórzy z nich trafili tam jako zesłańcy – ale będąc już na miejscu pełnili dalej posługę duszpasterską, inni zaś zostali wysłani właśnie w tym konkretnym celu. Jedni i drudzy uważnie przyglądali się tej części świata, przemierzając Kazachstan podczas swoich licznych podróży duszpasterskich do różnych parafii. Wspólnota katolików w Azji Środkowej rosła na przestrzeni całego XIX wieku, a przyczyniały się do tego zarówno represje carskie w formie zesłań, jak i dobrowolna migracja Europejczyków. Zwiększała się też liczba parafii katolickich, rozsianych po ogromnym terenie. Wizytujący je księża sporządzali notatki z podróży, pisali wspomnienia czy też artykuły publikowane następnie na łamach czasopism europejskich. Autor artykułu przedstawia działalność czterech księży katolickich: Walerego Gromadzkiego, Mateusza Wejta, Leona Czudowskiego i Justyna Pranajtisa, których relacje i opisy Azji Środkowej są nadzwyczaj ciekawym, choć nie do końca wykorzystanym przez badaczy źródłem historycznym.
