De tractaten van Jan van Ruusbroec zijn meerdere keren in het Pools vertaald. De eerste bekende vertaling werd gepubliceerd in 1874 en de laatste in 2006. Dit artikel analyseert de bemiddelaars die verantwoordelijk zijn voor de Poolse edities — vertalers en uitgeverijen. Het artikel wil een antwoord geven op waarom zij de gedachten van deze middeleeuwse Vlaamse mystiek naar Polen hebben gebracht, welke algemene keuzes ze hebben gemaakt (de brontekst, de presentatie) en wat de ontvangst ervan was. Het lijkt erop dat de meeste vertalingen werden voorbereid en gepubliceerd in een conservatieve katholieke omgeving. Dit was de waarschijnlijke reden voor gebrek aan interesse in de werken van Ruusbroec buiten deze kring. Tussen 2000 en 2006 werden de volledige werken vertaald met een moderne Nederlandse editie van de tractaten als brontekst. Deze Poolse publicatie die bestaat uit vier delen biedt niet alleen de vertaling van de werken van Ruusbroec maar geeft ook een uitgebreide analyse van zijn leven en aanwezigheid in de wereldse mystieke literatuur. Het zou een golf van nieuwe interesse in deze grote middeleeuwse geschriften kunnen veroorzaken.

Traktaty Jana van Ruusbroeca zostały przetłumaczone na język polski kilkakrotnie. Pierwsze znane tłumaczenie zostało opublikowane w 1874 r., ostatnie zaś w 2006 r. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia mediatorów odpowiedzialnych za powstanie polskich wydań — tłumaczy i wydawnictwa. Próbuje także odpowiedzieć na pytania, dlaczego zdecydowali się na przedstawienie myśli tego średniowiecznego mistyka flamandzkiego w Polsce, jakich wyborów musieli dokonać (tekst źródłowy, prezentacja) oraz jaki był odbiór tych tekstów. Większość przekładów była przygotowana i opublikowana w konserwatywnym katolickim środowisku. Prawdopodobnie to było przyczyną małego zainteresowania pracami Ruusbroeca poza tym kręgiem. W latach 2000-2006 dzieła Ruusbroeca zostały przetłumaczone na podstawie współczesnej edycji niderlandzkiej traktatów. Polska publikacja składa się z czterech części, które nie tylko zawierają tłumaczenie dzieł Ruusbroeca, ale przedstawiają również analizę życia i obecności tego twórcy w świecie literatury mistycznej. To może być początek nowej fali zainteresowania pismami tego wielkiego średniowiecznego mistyka.

The treaties of Jan van Ruusbroec have been translated several times into Polish. The first known translation was published in 1874 and the last one in 2006. This article analyses the mediators responsible for the Polish editions — translators and publishing houses. The article seeks to answer the questions of why they chose to bring the thoughts of this medieval Flemish mystic to Poland, what general choices they made (the source text, the presentation) and what the reception of it was. It appears that most of the translations were prepared and published in a conservative catholic environment. This was the probable reason for little interest in the works of Ruusbroec outside this circle. Between 2000 and 2006, the complete works were translated using the modern Dutch edition of the treaties as the source text. This Polish publication consisting of four parts does not only provide the translation of the works of Ruusbroec but it also gives a comprehensive analysis of his life and presence in the world mystic literature. It could be a start to a wave of new interest in those great medieval writings
