As industrial centres, the Polish city of Sosnowiec and the Czech city of České Budějovice developed differently. Sosnowiec was a part of the Upper-Silesian coal region, one of the most important old industrial regions on the European scale. However, until the 1980s, the city had developed not only as a centre of coal extraction and iron metallurgy, but unlike other Upper-Silesian industrial cities, also as a centre with diversified sectoral structure of industry. On the other hand, České Budějovice evolved as a peripheral centre in the southern part of the Czech Republic, i.e. in the region located outside the main industrialized spaces in the country. České Budějovice and the surroundings did not possess, apart from graphites and water, sufficient reserves of minerals. For this reason, since the beginning of industrial development it has been the light (consumer) industry that has played the major role, and in particular the production of beer and stationery. Industrial development of the cities has also differed during the last 20 years. In Sosnowiec, an important part in the regeneration of old industrial areas has been played by the city and European funds. At the same time, all the main old industrial areas maintained their production functions. In České Budějovice on the other hand, it has been the German and Austrian capital. Several industrial areas have altered their former production function into non-production functions.

Studia nad atrakcyjnością turystyczną krajobrazów i regionów coraz częściej obejmują rów- nież analizy krajobrazów przemysłowych i poprzemysłowych, w tym po dawnej działalności eksploatacyjnej. W przypadku obiektów poprzemysłowych zlokalizowanych na obszarach miejskich można ponadto mówić o tzw. nawarstwieniach historycznych, związanych z wpływem danego sektora przemysłu na architekturę i funkcjonowanie dzisiejszych miast. Zaniedbany krajobraz poeksploatacyjny lub zdewastowany wymaga działań o charakterze naprawczym, ale i daje możliwości dalszego jego kształtowania, np. poprzez adaptację w celu dostosowania do pełnienia nowych funkcji. Przedmiotem pracy jest analiza i ocena przeobrażeń przestrzennych związanych z procesami rewitalizacji terenów poprzemysłowych, zwłaszcza po działalności wydobywczej, w Polsce i na świecie, m.in. w zakresie waloryzacji obiektów i terenów pogórniczych, szans i zagrożeń związanych z przekształceniami krajobrazu o tym charakterze oraz błędów w procesach rewitalizacji. W pracy zaproponowano metodykę postępowania z terenem poprzemysłowym w celu właściwego jego zagospodarowania, w oparciu o świadome zarządzanie realizacją polityki przestrzennej.

Studies on tourist attractiveness of landscapes and regions often also comprise of the analysis of industrial and post-industrial landscapes, among them those previously exploited. In the case of post-industrial objects situated in urban areas there is also the connection with historical context i.e. the influence of the branch of industry on architecture and functioning of contemporary cities. Neglected or devastated post-exploitation landscape requires activities of restructuring character but also enables for its further shaping – e.g. through adaptation for new functions. The present paper analyses and assesses spatial transformations connected with revitalization of brownfields, particularly post-mining areas in Poland and around the world. In this context, the authors analyse the valorization of mining objects and areas, opportunities and threats connected with the transformation of landscape of such character, as well as mistakes in revitalization processes. Also proposed is the methodology of procedures regarding post-industrial area aimed at proper management based on realization of spatial policy.
