The article analyses the poetry of Miłosz Biedrzycki (MLB) as being built on the opposition to politically engaged authors from the 80s. In his case, defending the autonomy of literature does not lead to self-centred, private, authoritative, and confident narration. Biedrzycki’s lyrical subject is constantly in movement, unmasks his own activity, and proposes a vision of an open and modest identity which is fed by experience of the Other, and not constructed on the basis of common, heroical myths unable to recognise any failures

Brulion Legionów, ostatniej powieści Henryka Sienkiewicza, zawiera 139 oddzielnych stron, w tym zarówno rzuty odmian tekstowych, kolejne warianty, jak i wersję drukowaną. Zróżnicowany materiał i pozostałe notatki pisarza pozwalają badaczowi przedstawić metody pisania autora i jego dylematy. Bogata kolekcja listów jest źródłem dodatkowej wiedzy na temat procesu pisania. Podobnie jak w innych sytuacjach twórczych, Henryk Sienkiewicz w swoisty sposób pracował nad koncepcją kluczowych fragmentów, a także sposobu narracji.

The archived rough draft of Legiony, the last novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, contains 139 separate pages, including drafts of textual varieties, subsequent variants, and the printed version. The diverse material and the remaining writer’s notes enabled the researcher to present the author’s writing methods and his dilemmas. The rich collection of letters was the source of additional facts on his writing process. Similarly to other creative situations, Henryk Sienkiewicz worked in his characteristic way on the concept of the crucial fragments as well as on the mode of narration.

W studium dokonano rekonstrukcji i analizy procesu pisania dwóch opowiadań Włodzimierza Odojewskiego (1930–2016) powstałych w latach 1976–1993. Autor bada bruliony (rękopisy i maszynopisy) przechowywane w archiwum pisarza na Wydziale Filologii Polskiej i Klasycznej UAM w Poznaniu. Praca nad dokumentacją genezy opowiadań odbywa się przy pomocy narzędzi zaproponowanych przez francuskich genetyków tekstu (P-M. de Biasi, J. Bellemin-Noël) i amerykańskiego badacza J. Bryanta (pojęcie płynnego tekstu /fluid text/). Analiza dotyczy wybranych skupisk zmian w brulionach utworów Odojewskiego – redakcje tytułu, początkowych akapitów, a także skreślenia, poprawki, uzupełnienia. Punktem dojścia studium jest stwierdzenie, że toku długotrwałego aktu twórczego pisarz dąży do konstrukcji, które w sposób maksymalnie precyzyjny oddają niuanse stanów psychicznych bohaterów oraz scenerii akcji opowiadań. Akt twórczy w wykonaniu Odojewskiego jest przykładem niestabilności pisania, którego efektem są kreacje płynnych postaci.

The study retraces and investigates Włodzimierz Odojewski’s (1930–2016) process of writing two short stories between 1976 and 1993 by interrogating the manuscripts (handwritten and typed) from the writer’s personal archive, maintained by the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. To document the genesis of the stories, the author draws on analytical methods proposed by French text geneticists (Pierre-Marc De Biasi, Jean Bellemin-Noël) and American scholar John Bryant (author of the fluid text concept). The investigation is focused on selected clusters of revisions made in Odojewski’s manuscripts – edits made to the title and the opening paragraphs, alongside various deletions, corrections, and additions. The investigation is premised on the argument that in the course of a long creative act, writers typically strive for compositions that most precisely reflect the nuances of their characters’ mental states and the settings of their stories. As performed by Odojewski, the creative act serves as an example of the inherent volatility of writing, which ultimately produces highly fluid characters.

Artykuł omawia problemy i możliwości współczesnej edycji naukowej. Ukształtowane w Polsce zasady opracowania tekstów nieżyjących autorów w ciągu XX wieku podlegały coraz ściślejszej normatywizacji. Toczone w Polsce dyskusje dotyczyły na ogół konkretnych rozwiązań, natomiast niezbyt często podejmowały zagadnienia teorii i krytyki tekstu, bardzo szeroko rozwijane i dyskutowane zarówno w literaturoznawstwie zachodnim, jak i rosyjskim. W efekcie sztywniejących zasad w ramach edycji nie mieszczą się istotne informacje o tekście i niemal zupełnie nie uwzględnia się problematyki procesu twórczego. Wiedza o przekształceniach konkretnego dzieła może poszerzyć możliwości jego interpretacji. Rozwiązaniem zagadnień podejmowanych w ramach krytyki tekstu, wbrew pierwotnym oczekiwaniom, nie będzie edycja cyfrowa, jeśli nie powstaną koncepcje cyfryzacji dostosowane do każdego dzieła oddzielnie.

The article discusses the problems and possibilities of the contemporary academic edition. Editorial preparations of texts by late authors throughout the 20th century underwent more and more rigid normalisation. Discussions in Poland mainly referred to specific solutions, though they rather seldom raised the issues of text theory and criticism, broadly developed and examined both in Western and in Russian literary studies. In effect of the stiffening rules, the crucial pieces of information about the text failed to be included within an edition, and it almost completely neglected the text-forming issues. The knowledge about the transformations of a given work may extend its interpretive potential. Solution to the problems addressed within the framework of text criticism, against its initial assumptions, will not be worked out on the ground of text criticism unless concepts of digitisation designed to individual works separately are developed.
