The main goal of this article is a presentation of catholic and protestant social teaching and its evolution regarding the labor and business issues. Presented evolution was confronted with theoretical assumption of business ethics levels of analysis: the individual, group and social level, which refers to activities consistent with the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The analysis lead to conclusion that Christian social teaching has evolved from the issues dealing with the ethics of the employee to the issues involved in Corporate Social Responsibility. Moreover, analysis show that the views of Max Weber and Michael Novak on the meaning of Protestantism and Christianity in the development of capitalism are not contradictory, but rather compatible. Both, Protestantism and Catholicism, greatly influenced the formation of the ethical standards of the modern working man and his institutional environment.

As a result of many years of reading about and teaching Max Weber’s famous Protestant Ethic thesis, I have developed an approach to covering this material in both my undergraduate and graduate theory courses which has been beneficial to students and has helped them make sense of the rather complex argument developed by Weber. I provide a working model of all such scholarly inquires geared off the Science Triad, culminating in a five-step approach to organizing and explaining the Weber thesis. In addition, I provide an annotated bibliography of selected scholarly ruminations on Weber’s work in general and the Protestant Ethic thesis in particular.

The article discusses the dignity and the vocation of women as seen by Saint Teresa Benedict of the Cross (Edith Stein). When God created of the man and the woman he gave them three tasks: being his image, populating the Earth and having the dominion over it. The woman has a greater gift, which is having custody of people, rather than of fighting. The original sin entered the human nature and weakened it but did not destroy it completely. The woman’s relationship with the man has changed. The woman, unsure of her dignity, strives to gain it by fighting with the man. The deepest desire of the female heart is, however, to love and to belong entirely to the loved one. The nature of women, though hurt by the original sin, can be reborn submitting to God. That does not mean that all women must become nuns but that each of them must become “the servant of the Lord”. The paradigm of it is the Mother of God. Mary is an example of three crucial virtues: obedience, trust, and the common life with the husband. The deepest feminine desire, when the woman can forget about herself and have her heart open to the needs and the suffering of others, can be achieved only in Eucharistic communion with Jesus.

Szukając odpowiedzi na stawiane pytania, podjęta została próba usytuowania nauczyciela w aktywności zawodowej, która może stanowić podstawę do zastanowienia się, czy pracę nauczyciela należy postrzegać w kategoriach zawodu czy powołania?

The article contains issues related to the profession of teacher, looking for answers to the questions: 1) Who is the teacher?, 2) Teacher, vocation or profession? and draws attention to 3) Expectations of teachers related to their functioning in the profession. Searching for answers to the questions posed, an attempt was made to position the teacher in professional activity, which may be the basis for wondering whether the teacher's work should be seen in terms of calling.

Nell’articolo si cerca di dimostrare la chiamata dei discepoli di Gesù Cristo in Mc 1, 16-20. Il racconto si distingue per la sua unità e al tempo stesso per il suo schematismo. Composto di due scene che raccontano ciascuna la chiamata di due discepoli, presenta, per quanto riguarda la costruzione, uno stretto parallelismo. Con la lettura sincronica del racconto si cerca di presentare due caratteristiche della chiamata: l’iniziativa di Gesù e la risposta dei chiamati. Gli elementi comuni dell’azione di Gesù sono: il movimento, il suo vedere le persone, il suo chiamare alla sequela, la motivazione e lo scopo della chiamata. La risposta dei chiamati consiste di due parti: lasciare e seguire. La prima riguarda il passato: abbandonano l’ambiente in cui finora hanno vissuto. La seconda è orientata al futuro che sarà determinato dal rapporto con Gesù. Chi accetta la sua chiamata acceta pure l’appartenenza alla comunità dei chiamati. La comunità dei discepoli e la loro comunanza di vita con Gesù devono essere considerate come il luogo preferito in cui Gesù si è rivelato.

Praca zawodowa odgrywa bardzo istotną rolę w życiu każdego człowieka. Szczególną funkcję pełni w życiu osób z niepełnosprawnością. Przyjmuje się, że oprócz funkcji dochodowej, zapewniającej większe poczucie niezależności, praca pełni także funkcję rehabilitacyjną, a zwłaszcza – społecznej integracji. Badania przeprowadzone zostały z wykorzystaniem koncepcji job-career‑calling. Zakłada się, że ludzie różnią się w swoim stosunku do pracy, w postaci orientacji na zajęcie, karierę lub powołanie. W przypadku orientacji na zajęcie praca staje się głównie środkiem do zaspokajania potrzeb ekonomicznych. Orientacja na karierę oznacza możliwość realizowania siebie poprzez awansowanie i rozwijanie się w pracy. Powołanie natomiast jest relacją do pracy polegającą na poszukiwaniu w niej sensu, takiej organizacji zadań i kanalizacji aktywności zgodnie z celami powołania, które służą innym ludziom. Celem badania było porównanie charakterystyki stylów orientacji zawodowej osób z niepełnosprawnością oraz pełnosprawnych. Przebadano 111 osób z niepełnosprawnością pracujących w ramach trzech form zatrudnienia: warsztatów terapii zajęciowej, zakładów aktywności zawodowej oraz na otwartym rynku pracy, a także 94 osoby pełnosprawne zatrudnione na otwartym rynku pracy. Zastosowano Skalę Stylów Orientacji Zawodowej (Kasprzak, 2012). Stwierdzono, że osoby z niepełnosprawnością częściej w porównaniu do osób pełnosprawnych przejawiają orientację na powołanie w pracy. Uzyskane wyniki wpisują się w teoretyczne założenia znaczenia pracy dla osób z niepełnosprawnością.

Work is of great importance in every human’s life. It plays a special part in the life of people with disabilities. It is assumed that apart from its profit-making function, which provides people with disabilities with a greater sense of independence, work also has a rehabilitation function, and in particular – a social integration function. The study was conducted with the use of the job-career-calling concept. It is assumed that people differ in terms of their attitude to work: some are job-oriented, some are career-oriented, and some are calling-oriented. In the case of a job orientation, work is mainly a means of satisfying one’s financial needs. A career orientation refers to the opportunity for self-fulfillment through promotions and development at work. And a calling orientation is a work attitude that consists in searching for meaning at work, organizing one’s tasks and channeling one’s activities in a way that is in line with the goals of the calling that serve other people. The study aimed to compare the characteristics of work orientation styles in people with disabilities and non-disabled ones. It included 111 people with disabilities working in three types of employment settings: occupational therapy workshops, vocational rehabilitation facilities and the open labor market, as well as 94 non-disabled people working in the open labor market. The Work Orientation Style Scale was used (Kasprzak, 2012). The study showed that the people with disabilities had a calling work orientation more frequently as compared to the non-disabled people. The findings fit in with theoretical assumptions relating to the importance of work for people with disabilities.

One of the important aspects related to work is the sense of its significance and meaning. In Hackman and Oldham’s model (Job Characteristics Model – JCM), experienced meaningfulness of work is a function of task identity, subjective perception of task significance and the employees’ engaging a variety of skills. Research shows that persons who practice different professions define their work differently and attribute it different meanings. The cognitive and application-related value of these studies is based on a better understanding of the mechanisms of shaping positive attitudes towards work, whose behavioural consequence is employee’s engagement in work. The aim of the paper is to analyse the sense of work meaningfulness among the public administration representatives. In order to explore this issue, qualitative methods, which in principle are applied to discover subjective meanings attributed by individuals to various aspects of reality, were used in the study.

Jednym z istotnych aspektów związanych z pracą zawodową jest poczucie jej znaczenia i sensu. W modelu Hackmana i Oldhama (Job Characteristics Model – JCM) doświadczanie poczucia sensowości jest funkcją angażowania przez pracownika różnorodnych umiejętności, tożsamości zadań, a także subiektywnej percepcji znaczenia zadań. Badania pokazują, że osoby wykonujące różne zawody odmiennie definiują swoją pracę i nadają jej znaczenie. Poznawczy i aplikacyjny walor tych badań polega na lepszym zrozumieniu mechanizmów kształtowania się pozytywnych postaw wobec pracy, których behawioralną konsekwencją jest zaangażowanie pracownika w pracę. Celem artykułu jest analiza poczucia sensu pracy wśród reprezentantów administracji publicznej. W celu eksploracji tego zagadnienia zastosowano metody jakościowe, które z założenia wykorzystywane są do odkrywania subiektywnych znaczeń, jakie nadawane są przez jednostki różnym aspektom rzeczywistości.

Te Church and the family a mutual good for yourself based on Amoris laetitia ad- hortations. The article shows two meanings of the goodness, which include two specific phenom- ena - the Church and the family. Deep theological approach to this matter can empha- size a mission associated with this phenomena. The first task is to analyze the doctrine of Church and the reality of contemporary world. This study shows new areas of relation between the Church and the family connected each other in mutual help and assistance. The most important thing is that we learn how to live in community at first in our family. Hence, growing in the family helps to find our own place in the Church. The fulfillment of God’s vocation at this two areas is the means of the exposing true God to people. Relation between the Church and the family reveals God, who leans over every human being and wants to save him. We can figure out that there are many problems and difficulties both in the Church and in the family. The causation lies in the human imperfection and egoism. It is, in fact, all the more reason to find the methods of cooperation and support for every human living in the family and in the Church.

Calling is a gift from God and a mystery, it realizes in a reality of faith, which enables human to have a conversation with God – Holy Trinity, which continuously – Creates, Rescues – and Sanctifies – which, with a new dynamism, allows to realize an evangelic message, which, as sine qua non condition, is an integral part of every calling. Marriage – a family, is a “God’s atom”, whose energy – sacramental grace – is a reality capable of constant renewing of the face of this basic, even fundamental human community, which is family, society – to finally change the face of earth. Among the challenges and problems, which marriage and family may encounter nowadays, especially evil ideologies, which not only have doubt in calling for marriage and family, but even question them and their miraculous and natural origin coming from The Creator’s plan, the need for non-ambiguous testimony of married couple and family to the world, as well as understanding, the gifts of calling and spreading the message, is becoming a more and more burning desire. In the pastoral year, in which we consider the topic “Filled with Holy Spirit”, being open for His gifts, charisms, and full of hope for yet appearing fruits, the pastoral and evangelic challenges should be undertaken, together with those challenges, which stay in the lively dialogue with Paraclete, striving for realization of the tasks coming from life, so called Christian calling and spreading the message.

The phenomenon of Padre Pio’s active participation in the suffering of Christ shows us its two complementary levels. Even though the exceptional Grace appears in his soul and body in a visible way, it remains for him an inscrutable mystery. In this paper the author focused on the Padre Pio’s sufferings from Christological perspective. Suffering is valuable only if it is offered up in union with the Passion of Jesus. His Redemptive Suffering bestows a new meaning and value on human suffering. P. Pio didn’t comprehend his suffering as a rejection by God but as an invitation to the participation in the Redemptive Mystery accomplished by Passion of Jesus Christ. The author tried to show the P. Pio’s vocation to participation in the Suffering of Jesus and how he fulfilled it by willingly offering himself up and taking upon himself the burden of his cross.

Analizując fenomen cierpienia ojca Pio jako jego aktywnego uczestnictwa w cierpieniach Chrystusa, odkrywamy jego komplementarną dwubiegunowość: z jednej strony mamy do czynienia z rodzajem szczególnej łaski, która manifestuje się poprzez zjawiska fizyczne i duchowe na ciele i duszy zakonnika, a z drugiej strony pozostaje dla niego samego niepojętą tajemnicą. Autor w swym artykule rozważa zagadnienie cierpienia ojca Pio z perspektywy chrystologicznej, to znaczy takiej, która w cierpieniu widzi rzeczywistą wartość o zbawczym znaczeniu, pod warunkiem że ma ona swe odniesienie do Chrystusa, który nadał cierpieniu taki właśni sens i walor. Cierpienie nie jest tu przejawem odrzucenia przez Boga, ale zaproszeniem do uczestnictwa w wielkim misterium odkupienia dokonanym przez Chrystusa. Autor prezentuje dwa poziomy współuczestnictwa ojca Pio w cierpieniach Chrystusa: pierwszy nakreśla ramy jego powołania do tej misji, a drugi ukazuje jej realizację jako programu życiowego, który wypełnia się poprzez dobrowolną ofiarę z samego siebie i przyjęcie krzyża.
