The article describes the influence of the new rules of cataloguing Resource Description & Access (RDA) on the international cooperation of the library society within the range of shaping the bibliographic standards. The main goal is to present the role played by the European DRA Group in the process of integrating the European libraries around this key task for the future of librarianship. The author tried to prove that the aforementioned process of integration leads to the creation of a facility, playing the role of a representative of Europe in the global structures overseeing the works on the development of the cataloguing rules. In the summary, the author pointed out that an effective inclusion of Poland in these actions is dependent on achieving understanding on a national scale.

The article describes the assumptions of the research project entitled “Describing the catalogues of the 19th century prints published in emigration and on Polish land from the collection of the Polish Library in Paris and The Historical and Literary Society”. It presents the methodology of studying the materials (VTLS/Virtua) and the specifics of the collection of the Polish Library in Paris. The realisation of the project is an opportunity to exchange experiences between the employees of different institutions taking part in the project. The workshop of the librarians of the PAU and PAN, Ossolineum and the Jagiellonian Library are characterized with local otherness, and due to this cooperation it is possible to broaden the skills and qualifications and share the knowledge. The integration of the community is being made in several aspects - scientific, professional and social.

A lack of uniform methods in the processing of manuscripts in Polish libraries prompted efforts to formulate theoretical principles, a process that began in the early 20th century. The publication in 1955 of Wytyczne opracowania rękopisów w bibliotekach polskich [Guidelines to the processing of manuscripts in Polish libraries] made it possible to standardise the various elements of catalogue description and set the basic rules of processing manuscripts, although it did not eliminate all the problems. This often led to considerable differences in methods used in practice in the approach to manuscripts in the largest Polish libraries, which was reflected in numerous printed catalogues of manuscripts published from 1955 onwards. Problems concerned e.g. Manuscripts comprising loose materials which were combined into units, an approach that often had its roots in insufficient respect for the principles of archival provenance. When it came to the creation of catalogue descriptions, the most uniform rules were formulated with regard to correspondence, while in the other types of manuscripts (personal papers, collections of literary and historical materials, memoirs etc.) there were often considerable differences. They concerned primarily the level of detail in the description of the contents of the manuscripts. Considerable differences were also to be found in the rules for creating external descriptions, especially elements concerning the dimensions of the manuscripts and periods in which they originated. Nor was there any uniformity when it came to the rules of inventorying manuscripts, especially correspondence, and maintaining the integrity of legacies in manuscript catalogues.

The most important task undertaken by German musicologists in Wroclaw during the first half of the twentieth century was to catalogue the musical sources of the whole of Silesia, supervised by the Institute of Music (Seminar of Musicology) at the University of Wroclaw, which arose out of the former Royal Academic Institute of Music, established in 1812. The Institute of Music was the first centre to catalogue local musical sources in Wroclaw and the whole region. The Institute’s library was founded during the secularisation process of 1810, and large collections of musical sources were transferred there from regional Catholic churches and monasteries. Thanks to the efforts of Otto Kinkeldey and his doctoral student Hans Erdmann Guckel, the library’s stock was set in order for the first time at the beginning of twentieth century, with clear, uniform shelf-marks given to individual items. In the late 1920s, complex cataloguing was established by Max Schneider and four of his students, Heribert Ringmann, Fritz Koschinsky, Fritz Feldmann and Josef Wittkowski, who searched for unknown and uncatalogued musical sources in the provinces of Silesia. Cooperation with Berlin’s Central Catalogue led to the preparation of detailed descriptions of sources in the form of index cards, though unfortunately only one copy of each card was made and they are now believed to be lost. More detailed evidence was recently found in Schneider’s papers, including reports and correspondence. This enables us to partially reconstruct the scope of the cataloguing campaign, the localities visited and the repertoire that was found. Some of the collections discovered during that campaign and taken to Wroclaw have survived, giving us the possibility of further research orientated towards reconstructing the picture of musical life in Silesia.

In the collections of the Uppsala University Library there are many books that were owned by libraries in Poznań until 1655, when Swedish forces took them as war booty and sent them to Sweden. In this article the aim is to recapitulate the history of this Poznań-collection, i.e. the library itself, the capture in 1655, its transport to and later destiny in Sweden, partly by means of material evidence. Traces from all these events are still visible in the books themselves and they are of course essential for understanding the collection in its present context. In addition, there are catalogues and registers from the time that help us in the reconstruction of this important historical library.

Materiał i metody. Badania przeprowadzono w maju i czerwcu 2018 roku. Dane zostały przygotowane na podstawie ankiety, wysłanej do 33 bibliotek państwowych wyższych szkół zawodowych w Polsce. Zarejestrowano odpowiedzi z 14 instytucji (42%). Wyniki.

Introduction. The aim of this article is to present the opinion of catalogue specialists working in state libraries of Higher Vocational Schools (HVS) in Poland about descriptors of the National Library (dNL), presentation of data relating to the application of selected standards of Resource Description & Access (RDA) in the process of development of sets and information about the library system. Material and methods. The studies were conducted in May and June of 2018. Data were prepared on the basis of a survey sent to 33 libraries of the Higher Vocational Schools in Poland. The answers were registered from 14 institutions (42%). Results. The majority of the libraries which applied JHP BN currently apply dBN and have a positive opinion about them. The majority of them apply selected standards RDA. Search in the OPAC catalogues only in several cases is based on faceted search, whilst not all systems give such opportunity and the exchange of software carries the burden of significant finance means. Conclusions. The results show that libraries, which replied to the survey are open to changes, willingly applying new standards and making efforts to meet the needs of users visiting them.
