The author discusses the problem of child's sex pre-selection. The most important motives of such a choice are parents' preferences and the protection of the child against diseases usually associated with the particular gender. Basically, there are two types of methods that increase the chances of having a child of particular sex: natural methods related to the moment of fertilization and artificial methods based on the selection of male gametes with an appropriate sex chromosome and the use of artificial procreation. The author positively assesses natural methods motivated by the child's health or welfare, but he negatively evaluates the sex pre-selection using artificial methods and motivated by the interest of others (parents, human society, socio-political structures).

Autor omawia problem preselekcji płci dziecka. Najważniejsze motywy takiego wyboru to preferencje rodziców oraz uchronienie dziecka przed chorobami, przeważnie związanymi z płcią. Zasadniczo możliwe są dwa typy metod, które zwiększają szansę posiadania dziecka określonej płci: metody naturalne związane z momentem zapłodnienia oraz metody sztuczne oparte na selekcji gamet męskich z odpowiednim chromosomem płciowym oraz na zastosowaniu metod sztucznej prokreacji. Autor pozytywnie ocenia metody naturalne motywowane zdrowiem lub dobrem dziecka. Negatywnie ocenia wybór płci metodami sztucznymi oraz motywowany interesem osób drugich (rodziców, społeczności ludzkiej, struktur społeczno-politycznych).
