Unaccompanied child migration, propelled by war, political strife and instability is an increasingly serious global problem. Refugee youth contends with numerous challenges as they adjust to living in a new country. Although their capacity for resilience is being given the deserved recognition, studies where their views are taken into account greatly outweigh in number those where the voices of young refugees directly narrate how they bounce forward in the face of an uncertain future (Walsh 2002). Resilience scholars are challenged to move beyond a narrow understanding of youth refugee resilience by conducting research on their life situations exploring their own perspectives. This article describes some of the insights gained from a phenomenological study- whose methods are particularly effective at capturing and illuminating the experiences and perceptions of individuals from their own perspectives- undertaken with unaccompanied minors living in Germany. The narrative approach used to explicate their narratives highlights seven major coping strategies: (1) Treasuring personal identity, (2) Maintaining cultural identity, (3) Networks of support and social negotiations, (4) Nurturing the need to belong, (5) Embracing a positive outlook, (6) Perceived self-efficacy and personal characteristics, (7) Adopting a growth mindset & self-enhancement expectations. The empirical data of this research show that URMs are active agents in choosing meaningful pathways to resilience and purposefully navigate through the numerous challenges in their lives.

The article is a review of an anthology edited by Maciej Wróblewski, which includes the compositions of Polish children (written between 1945 and 1946) about their wartime experiences. The editor argues that the discovered in the archives works of students are unique because they are the record of the experiences of these young Polish people during the Second World War. They have documentary value and potential for the use in historical research.

The problem of traumatic codes in post-Yugoslav theater is increasingly attracting attention of many researches. Dramas written by Serbian authors: Biljana Srbljanović, Milan Marković and Tanja Šljivar depict the historical background and tragedies from children’s point of view. The youngest citizens, the voices of the traumatized culture, participate in the process of re-enacting incriminating events through (in)offensive plays and games. This article considers idiosyncrasies of representation of trauma in Serbian theater and drama through the construction of figures of children, victims and witnesses, who intensify the tragedy, but also get the recipients thinking about the possibilities of working through the trauma and adapting to the new post-war and post-transition reality. This phenomenon is particularly reflected in dramas Family Stories (B. Srbljanović), Maya and Me and Maya (M. Marković), Scratching or How My Grandmother Killed Herself (T. Šljivar).

The aim of this paper is to present a retrospective of child poverty research in Estonia: how it has developed from the social and political acknowledgement of poverty as a social issue in the early 1990s onwards, and how child poverty research has contributed to the development of political thought. The paper follows the use of a new paradigm of childhood research, and revisits the methodological approaches and main research findings that have enhanced the understanding of children as a new policy interest group in politics.
