Zrozumienie aktualnej sytuacji na Bliskim Wschodzie, wzajemnych relacji świata muzułmańskiego, a zwłaszcza arabskiego z cywilizacją zachodnią, problemów terroryzmu, wymaga poszerzenia wiedzy z historii judaizmu, chrześcijaństwa i islamu. Konieczna jest znajomość wartości, które niosą te religie oraz ich wpływu na procesy społeczne zachodzące w krajach arabskich i na Zachodzie, jak również zrozumienie relacji zachodzących między cywilizacją islamską a zachodnią. Artykuł składa się z trzech części. W pierwszej podjęto próbę zaprezentowania warunków społeczno-politycznych, w których powstał islam. W drugiej przedstawiono wkład islamu w rozwój cywilizacyjny, podobieństwa i różnice judaizmu, chrześcijaństwa i islamu. W trzeciej przeanalizowano konflikt cywilizacji zachodniej i umiarkowanego islamu z fundamentalistycznymi trendami islamu. Artykuł kończą rozważania na temat metod zniwelowania konfliktu cywilizacji muzułmańskiej z zachodnią.

Understanding the situation in the Middle East, interrelations between the Muslim world, and particularly Arab one, and the Western civilization, problems with terrorism, requires an extension of the knowledge of the history of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Necessary is the knowledge of the values entailed by these religions and their impact on the social processes taking place in the Arabic countries and in the West as well as the understanding of the relations occurring between the Islamic and Western civilization. The article consists of three parts. In the first, the author attempted to present the socio-political conditions in which Islam had emerged. In the second, he presented the Islam’s contribution to the civilizational development, similarities and differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In the third part, the author analysed the conflict of the Western civilization and the one of moderate Islam with the fundamentalist trends in Islam. The article concludes with considerations on the methods of eliminating the conflict between the Islamic civilization and the Western one.
