The article discusses Wasteland (Pustina, dir. Alice Nellis, Ivan Zachariáš, 2016), a Czech TV miniseries created by Štěpán Hulík and produced by HBO Europe, as an example of the transnational usage of Nordic noir formula. In the article, Nordic noir is recognized and presented as medium-concept cinema (Andrew Nestingen). The outline of its characteristics and the analysis of its rhizomatic roots constitute the first part of the article. The second is devoted to Wasteland. Three plotlines are identified and highlighted as crucial for Hulík’s miniseries: the crime and investigation plot, the violence against women one, and the disintegration of the community one. Their analysis is complemented with characteristics of the visual style employed in Wasteland.
