The outbreak of the German-Soviet war in June 1941 aroused enthusiasm in wide circles of Spanish society, still trying to heal its wounds after the revolution and civil war of the 1930s. Almost immediately there were calls for creating voluntary military units and sending them to Russia to fight against the hateful Bolshevism. This initiative is examined by Professor Xavier Moreno Juliá in his study The Blue Division. Spanish Blood in Russia, 1941–1945, a Polish edition of which was published in 2009. It still remains the most extensive and most comprehensive publication among works dealing with Franco’s Spain involvement on the eastern front available in Poland. In the article the author analyses the accuracy of the theses and opinions presented in the work in question, especially in the context of Polish approaches to the problem so far.

Tematem artykułu jest życie codzienne żołnierzy niemieckich na froncie wschodnim II wojny światowej. Aby zanalizować to zagadnienie, prześledzimy wybrane wspomnienia żołnierzy Wehrmachtu pod kątem naszego głównego problemu badawczego. Pierwsza cześć artykułu to przybliżenie opisu życia codziennego na podstawie dziennika Hansa Rotha. Druga oraz trzecia natomiast to próba przybliżenia punktu widzenia Güntera Koschorrek i Josefa Allebrgera. Następna partia tejże pracy to odpowiedź na pytanie, jaki obraz codzienności frontowej wyłania się ze wspomnień Czesława Knoppa. Ostatnia zaś, to charakterystyka wojennej egzystencji przez Gerda Helmuta Komassę. Swoim artykułem chciałem spróbować dojść do pewnych wniosków i celów sobie postawionych. Przede wszystkim chciałem zaprezentować temat wojny III Rzeszy ze Związkiem Radzieckim z punktu widzenia strony przegranej, ponieważ uważam, że zasługuje on na uwagę, a także że jest on w dzisiejszej, polskiej literaturze przedmiotu niewystarczająco uwypuklony i przedstawiany głównie z perspektywy zwycięskiej strony konfliktu. W dalszej kolejności natomiast chciałem ukazać życie codzienne żołnierzy niemieckich na froncie wschodnim II wojny światowej, ponieważ uznałem, że temat ten jest znikomo lub w ogóle nie poruszany w dzisiejszej literaturze dotyczącej II wojny światowej, głównie nastawionej na opis przebiegu działań wojennych. Wydaje mi się, że zamierzony cel, jaki sobie postawiłem w tym wystąpieniu został osiągnięty. Jednak temat ten pozostaje nadal otwarty, szczególnie ze względu na bogatość materiału źródłowego pozostawionego przez uczestników zmagań rozgrywających się na froncie wschodnim. Dlatego też, dla Czytelników artykuł ten może stanowić pewną namiastkę oraz zachętę do bliższego poznania tego niezwykle ciekawego i na nowo badanego tematu.

In this essay I shall examine daily life of German soldiers on the eastern front of World War II. In order to analyze this issue, we will trace selected memoirs of Wehrmacht soldiers in view of our main research problem. The first part of the article is an approximation of the description of everyday life on the basis of Hans Roth's diary. The second and the third is an attempt to approximate Günter Koschorreck's and Josef Alleberger’s point of view. The next part of this work is the answer to the question of what a picture of everyday life emerges from Czesław Knopp's memories. The last one is Gerd Helmut Komassa's characterization of war existence. The aim of my study was to reach the following conclusions. First of all, I wanted to deal with the war of the Third Reich against the Soviet Union from the point of view of the losing side, because I think it deserves the attention, and it is in today's polish literature insufficiently emphasized and presented mainly from the perspective of the winning side of the conflict. In the meantime, however, I wanted to show the everyday life of German soldiers on the Eastern Front of World War II, because I considered that this topic was insignificant or not emphasized at all in today's World War II literature, mainly set about the course of warfare. It seems to me that the intended objective of this article was achieved. Yet, the issue remains open, especially because of the richness of the source material left by the participants of the struggle taking place on the eastern front. Therefore, for the Readers this article can be a kind of substitute and an incentive for further exploration of this extremely captivating and re-examined topic.

The goal of this study is an analysis of the newspaper articles recalling the events on the Eastern front during World War II. The study attempts at answering the following questions: how did the information published in the newspaper reflect reality? Also, how are the events from the considered timeline of the clash in the East described? Based on the information in the “Nowy Głos Lubelski”, the author focuses on a critical moment when the initiative slowly shifts to the Soviet side. This article outlines how the information regarding the most important Eastern front events was conveyed to the people of the occupied lands through the medium of “Nowy Głos Lubelski”.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przeanalizowanie artykułów prasowych wspominajacych tematykę frontu wschodniego w czasie II wojny światowej. Autor próbuje odpowiedzieć w jaki sposób informacje w nich zawarte odzwierciedlają faktyczne wydarzenia?, a także: w jaki sposób opisane są zdarzenia mające wpływ na przebieg starć na wschodzie? W swoich rozważaniach nad informacjami zawartymi w „Nowym Głosie Lubelskim” Autor skupia się nad momentem, kiedy inicjatywa powoli przechodzi na stronę sowiecką. Analizuje w jaki sposób informacje o najważniejszych wydarzeniach z frontu wschodniego przekazywane były ludności terenów okupowanych za pośrednictwem „Nowego Głosu Lubelskiego”.

Целью данной работы является анализ статей в прессе, напоминающих о теме Восточного фронта во время Второй мировой войны. Автор пытается ответить, как содержащаяся в нем информация отражает реальные события? А также: как описываются события, влияющие на ход столкновений на востоке? В своих размышлениях об информации, содержащейся в «Новом Глосе Люблинском», автор акцентирует внимание на том моменте, когда инициатива медленно переходит на советскую сторону. В нем анализируется, как информация о наиболее важных событиях с Восточного фронта передавалась населению оккупированных районов через «Новый голос Люблинский».
