In the industrial society, people expected that graduates would primarily be able to apply their knowledge in professional situations. In pedagogy, it refers to the development of the operability of knowledge. For the information society, which is called “knowledge society” (informed reason), the competence in reaching information, its collection and processing into a new knowledge, plays an important role. This is the society of knowledge creators! Today, it seems necessary that the school must meet the challenge.

W społeczeństwie industrialnym ludzie oczekiwali, że absolwenci szkół będą przede wszystkim potrafili stosować wiedzę w sytuacjach zawodowych. W języku pedagogiki mówi się o rozwijaniu operatywności wiedzy. Dla społeczeństwa informacyjnego, które nazywane jest społeczeństwem wiedzy (poinformowanego rozumu) ważną rolę odgrywają kompetencje w zakresie docierania do informacji, ich gromadzenia i przetwarzania w nową wiedzę. To społeczeństwo twórców wiedzy! Dzisiaj wydaje się konieczne, że szkoła musi takie wyzwanie podjąć.
