The article presents the concept of empowerment in the context of early childhood education, mentioning its 5 dimensions, i.e. meaning, self-determination, competence, influence and security. Attempts to identify these dimensions are presented in the collected research material in the form of critical events from students’ pedagogical practices. In the light of the results obtained, early school education appears as an environment for blocking students’ empowerment in each of the highlighted aspects. The summary of the article identifies the possibilities of overcoming barriers in respecting the autonomy of a child at school.

The paradigmatic change in adult education that took place in the 1990s, involving “a shift from teaching towards learning”, resulted not only in deeper reflection of andragogists on the epistemological issues concerning the specific character and conditions of adult learning, but also in the redefinition of andragogic notions including the title category of empowerment. Another consequence of this change is a different attitude towards the educational activity of adults, an example of which is the international educational project “ICT-Guides” described in the article. The first part of the article analyzes the concept of lifelong learning and characterizes empowerment, which provides the theoretical context for further deliberations. Then, the assumptions of the “ICT-Guides” project are presented. The project shows a new way of determining educational tasks and organizing educational work in the context of lifelong learning. The “ICT-Guides” project is also an example of a good practice serving empowering functions.

Upełnomocnienie można analizować z perspektywy indywidualnej i zbiorowej. Upełnomocnienie zbiorowe z kolei, odnosi się do przełamywania barier, do zmiany pozycji społecznej, umożliwia bycie „aktorem społecznym” w pełni zdolnym do wnoszenia wkładu indywidualnego i kolektywnego w zmianę świata wokół siebie.

Homeless people are subjected to disadvantageous representations in the media, also lacking opportunities for self-representation. This article reports on the findings of two preparatory stages of a project that involves homeless people in the publication of their own newspaper. The findings show that homeless people want to represent themselves through self-created news and to address homelessness as a social issue through people’s life stories, which has the potential to challenge mainstream media practices related to portraying homelessness. At the same time, the analysis reveals several issues that need to be considered while implementing such projects. For example, self-empowerment may sometimes come at the price of disempowerment of others. This emphasizes the importance of carefully structuring the facilitating processes to promote homeless people’s genuine media participation, and to support individual and community empowerment.

People, with their knowledge and potential, are undoubtedly the most important part in any organisation because, thanks to them, it might accomplish its goals, gain a competitive advantage and achieve success on the market. That is why each organisation should hire the most appropriate employees and provide working conditions that enable them to unleash their potential for the company’s benefit. The fundamental value for creating a good work environment is employees’ subjectivity, which can be perceived in two ways. The basic level of honouring a person’s subjectivity is respecting human rights and the employee’s dignity in mutual relations. The higher level, though, is to give people a certain amount of autonomy and responsibility in their workplace. The aim of this paper is to identify and analyse interdisciplinary concepts that managers can use in order to ensure that people are given the respect they deserve.

Social protection programs have been an important part of development process and planning in India since its Independence. However, after sixty-five years, around one-fourth of its population lives in poverty. Despite a plethora of social protection programs, vulnerable groups among the poor have not been well targeted. However, the recent paradigm shift towards rights-based legislations may have hit the right chord with its self-targeting mechanism. The Right to Work, or the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) provided employment to almost 55 million households and spending nearly 8 billion US dollars in April 2010–March 2011. Participation of women and socially backward groups has been exceptionally high. This paper analyzes the policy provisions, implementation and monitoring mechanism of MGNEGA to argue that policy designs with legal enforceable mechanisms and collaborative governance systems can lead to empowerment of the marginalized sections.

The paper presents concepts of personalistic leadership and servant leadership as an alternative to the technocratic management. The most important issue in the two concepts of leadership is the empowerment, that is, the capacity of building the staff (competence, knowledge, motivation). Servant leadership is an American concept of leadership very similar to the concept of personalistic leadership. The differences arise from how to give reasons – servant leadership has inspired by religion (Christianity), whereas the concept of personalistic leadership is based on the personalism and phenomenology.

The article presents history and dynamics of tourist movement in the Colca Valley. Analyzing results of field research conducted in 2003 and 2007 the authors describe main changes in the attitudes of local inhabitants and authorities towards tourism and identify their character. Tourist activities based on the Colca Canyon natural attractions, remaining under total control of external tour operators since the eighties and perceived as a burden in the area, are seen now as a possible important factor of local development. New bottom-up initiatives are spreading in the Colca localities supported by NGOs and a public development program. Patterns of more sustainable tourism emerge and local culture is turning into an important element of the Colca tourist product.

The negative tendencies in contemporary society and organisations occur as a result of technocratic culture (technopoly). To improve this situation, it is necessary to change the technocratic decision-making paradigm to an ecoempathetic one. The paper presents the ecoempathetic concept of management operations as a philosophy leading to sustainable development and harmony in organisations.

Childhood is a unique period of life, and it has a fundamental influence on human being’s process of development. Knowledge and experience gathered by a child has a great impact on his/her behaviour and relations with others. Identity(ies) of the child, especially its social aspect, is shaped through the acting process, in a specific social space. It is the key to understanding mechanisms taking place between an individual and society. Its form and shape are determined by a society as well as an individual depending on his/her position in the social structure. What are the commonalities and differences between the world of children of vulnerable identity and those who are brought up in “healthy” family systems? They form a separate social group and are present in various types of discourse. However, their social situation is different, much more difficult ‒ their life stories are complicated, and their firsthand experience is much bigger. What are their chances of being included in the mainstream? The purpose of the article is to find the answer to the question

The article focuses on the issue of equality with regard to the process of European integration. Firstly, the change of the legal paradigm in the European legal culture is characterised, secondly, the notion of self-reflexive societies is introduced, and eventu-ally the paper deals with the issue of equality set as a complex problem, especially with regard to the social dimension. The chief concern of the paper is to develop the concept of the public power of judgement, to unveil the role of moral-discursive competencies, and to explain in what sense the theoretical premise of rationality potentials released in the discourse may overburden an ordinary citizen’s participation in processes of demo-cratic law legitimation.

The article analyses the main humanistic models in the theory of management. Seeking the answer to a question is an aim of analysis research: whether achievements of the humanistic current do the man good and help them with their development, or whether, on the contrary – have instrumental character and serve only increasing the effectiveness of the man as the employee? Discovering deeper sources of the activity is crucial for fuller understanding the empowerment, which is developed in servant leadership.

The aim of this study is an attempt to interpret the concept of „empowerment” in the perspective of open innovation issues. The text consists of a brief introduction, four sections, and summary. The main background of the research is related to the importance of the social reality of the organisation to evolving paradigms of innovation. In the face of globalization challenges, the innovation management could be interpreted as a specific system based on interdisciplinary analysis of an organisation’s social potential. The methodology involves desk research and theoretical deliberations. As the results, this study distinguished attributes and role of empowerment in the social development process. The possibilities of an adoption of this concept to management in the open innovation context provide the theoretical contribution.

Research background: There is currently a need for empirical research regarding the validity of specific work environment model elements supported by strong statistical evidence. The amount of research conducted in this field has been particularly limited in Central-Eastern Europe. The desire to fill in these gaps was at least in part responsible for the uniqueness of the research approach and its differences from previous similar studies. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting employee engagement and to examine their relationship with each other using Visegrad countries as an example. Methods: The initial data is taken from the fourth European Company Survey (2019) for management respondents. After data cleaning, the sample sizes for Czechia, Hungary Poland, and Slovakia are N(CZ)=904, N(HU)=682, N(PL)=511, and N(SK)=361, respectively. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis (EFA), the following five dimensions were identified for this research: (1) inclusiveness, (2) empowerment, (3) work autonomy, (4) organizational learning environment, and (5) work engagement. An analysis of structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to determine the links that exist among these dimensions of a constructive work environment. Findings & value added: The structural model indicates that inclusiveness and empowerment have a significant positive impact on work engagement in all the countries examined. Inclusiveness was the strongest predictor of work engagement, followed by empowerment. Both of the two other predictors in the model (workplace autonomy and organizational learning environment) generally had less or no effect on employee engagement. The present study extends recent literature on work engagement by empirically validating the influence of workplace environment-related factors, as well as providing useful organizational policy recommendations for managers.

Artykuł prezentuje koncepcję empowermentu i możliwość wykorzystania jej w zarządzaniu organizacjami.

It formulated the essence of the empowerment in the developed phase and identified the conditions for the functioning of the organization related to the implementation of this concept in the practice of management. The main purpose of the article was to present tools for identifying and measuring the level of empowerment in organizations and conditions of using this tool in management. The research used a tool constructed by the authors, which diagnoses manifestations of the level and extent of empowerment. An additional advantage of the used tool is the possibility, with its help, to diagnose those areas that should be improved so that they do not become a barrier of employee independence. The research results indicate that these barriers most often occur in the areas of independence, responsibility and acceptance of employee participation in decision making by superiors.

The presence or appearance of social problems is associated with the continuous search for new approaches, forms and methods of social work, creating efficient solutions based on a thorough analysis of scientific literature, research, as well as their use by practitioners, often encompassing supervision by the creators or experienced implementers. Among the most recent examples of the concept of using the idea of empowerment, inter alia, an approach which concentrates on solutions, positive psychology, case management, the supported employment model, and an approach based on the building and development of society. Moreover, one must draw attention to motivational dialogue and family group conferences, video training communication, genogram, or the accompaniment method and outreach method. Bearing in mind the necessity of engaging in work with individuals who need the assistance of a social worker, the goal of considerations was to show selected innovative solutions in contemporary social work.

Mając na uwadze konieczność podejmowania pracy z osobami potrzebującymi pomocy pracownika socjalnego celem rozważań uczyniono ukazanie wybranych innowacyjnych rozwiązań we współczesnej pracy socjalnej.
