Znaczenie Maratonu na Biegunie Północnym dla uczestników i rejonu recepcyjnego

Celem artykułu jest identyfikacja znaczenia Maratonu na Biegunie Północnym (MBP) dla uczestników i miejscowości Longyearbyen na Spitsbergenie, gdzie zawodnicy rozpoczynają i kończą udział w wydarzeniu. Materiał empiryczny stanowią wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród uczestników Maratonu na Biegunie Północnym 2016. Mają charakter studium przypadku ze względu na niewielką liczebność (N=41), choć objęły prawie wszystkich maratończyków (47 osób). Wyniki dowodzą, że uczestnictwo w MBP 2016 umożliwiło zawodnikom obcowanie z arktyczną, dziką przyrodą i przesuwanie własnych granic psychofizycznych. Można szacować, że uczestnicy maratonu i osoby towarzyszące wydały w Longyearbyen ponad 200 tys. euro, co prowadzi do konkluzji, że MBP wygenerował wydatki przyjezdnych w wysokości prawie 100 euro na mieszkańca.

The aim of the paper is the identification of The North Pole Marathon’s impact on the participants and on Longyearbyen on Svalbard, which is the meeting and departure point for runners. Empirical data was gathered in Longyearbyen on 7th April 2016, during the briefing before the North Pole Marathon 2016. It was a direct survey questionnaire of all participants –purposive sampling was applied. 41 racers filled the questionnaire (out of 47 finishers). The results prove that participation in NPM2016 offered runners experiences connected with wild arctic nature and pushing their own psychophysical limits. Participants and their companions spent more than 200 000 EUR in Longyearbyen during their stay connected with NPM2016, which means nearly 100 EUR per single Longyearbyen inhabitant.
