Stwierdzenie to otwiera szerokie pole do dyskusji nad niektórymi aspektami tajemnicy Kościoła oraz aktualnymi wyzwaniami misji głoszenia królestwa Bożego współczesnemu światu. Do najważniejszych zadań postawionych współczesnemu Kościołowi należą: zaangażowanie w ruch ekumeniczny (1), dialog z innymi religiami (2) oraz posługa miłosierdzia (3).

The author discusses the theme of the recently concluded XIII Synod, while awaiting the post-synodal apostolic exhortation. In the first part, in order to grasp the theme, the author presents the story of the term “New Evangelization”. For this he turns to the teaching of Pope John Paul II, where one can find a number of indications for the point of departure of new evangelization, the Pope’s insights into evangelization and the reasons why there is a need for a new evangelization. In the second part, the author presents the essential content of new evangelization according to Benedict XVI, especially in the areas of conversion, witness, and its kerygmatic, charismatic and communitary dimensions. The final part touches on the importance of the role of the laity. It emphasizes the importance of prayer. The most fruitful and appropriate prayer in the context of new evangelization today is Lectio divina. It concludes in affirming that this action is without doubt a great challenge for the Church of Europe.

Th e fi rst and at the same time the most fundamental mission of the Church is to profess the Good News about Jesus Christ. Th ough it has been done since ages, recently this task has acquired a new dimension. Th e New Evangelism has become the pastoral challenge since the Church spotted the developing secularization in the Christian world. We may talk about the New Evangelism’s eff ectiveness when all members of the Church will share taken from the meeting with Jesus Christ experience with their brothers who lose their faith. Th e New Evangelism requires creating new methods, searching for new people and new means of professing the Good News. Th e Pope Benedict XVI underlines that in such a way the new pastoral program of the Church for the next few years is being assigned.

The call of Jesus to recognize the signs of time from Mt 16, 3 has a timeless character. The investigation and explanation of the Gospel light is the duty of the Church. This has a fundamental importance for the effectiveness of evangelization. The signs of time can be correlated directly with God’s initiative to save us. The sign of time can be considered the sign of God in which God’s freedom addresses our freedom, calling us to create history. God, thanks to the signs of time, not so much manifests his definite will, but rather directs us towards freedom. The signs of time show the direction of behaviour for the development of the world which is unanimous with the thought of God. They are God’s calls, which are directed towards men, therefore, recognizing the signs of time has mainly a practical dimen- sion, not a theoretical one. Recognizing signs nowadays allows us to discover new and current elements in the Gospel.

Parish ministry is an organized religious activity of the Church which consists of serving believers with proclaiming God’s Word, celebrating Eucharist, administrating others sacraments. Within the Church believers enter into personal interactions, they help one another, and confessing their faith, they bear witness of God’s Good News to unbelievers. As an organized activity within the Church, it has to be regulated with proper legal acts. Parish ministry involves lots of particular activities on the above mentioned fields which are directed towards building parish community. An immediate consequence of parish ministry is a reconciliation with God, unity of the believers and any person of good will. Strong experience of one’s faith can be helpful to other persons to gain peace in their hearts. Every believer must be a spark of light, a centre of love amidst his follow men. And he will be this all the more he lives in communion with God, and the more he achieves peace within his heart. Peace in one’s heart is a condition of peace within families and between nations.

Ground-work for making social order is evangelization, which leads to the elimination of barriers between people that are result of the sin. That’s why catholic social teaching, in agreement to Magisterium of the Church, can not restrict itself to moral order, but must be found on paradigm of evangelization. Liturgy as a place of permanent evangelization and building unity with God is a fundamental school of social life.

The Commission on World Mission and Evangelism of the World Council of Churches worked out a document Together Towards Life: Mission and Evangelism in Changing Landscapes. It is the first document of this type which is devoted entirely to mission and evangelism since 30 years. The document consists of four parts: Spirit of Mission: Breath of Life, Spirit of Liberation: Mission from the Margins, Spirit of Community: Church on the Move, Spirit of Pentecost: Good News for All. While discussing the content of particular parts of the document, the current article referred to the stand of the Roman Catholic Church on mission and evangelism. In many points the stance of the World Council of Churches contained in the document Together Towards Life: Mission and Evangelism in Changing Landscapes and the approach of the Catholic Church (presented on the basis of documents of Ecumenical Councils, encyclicals, apostolic exhortations and papal speeches) seems to be similar.
