Rak (Cancer) as a metaphor in the language of Internet users – meaning and expressive attitude This paper concerns the description and expressive evaluation of the word rak (cancer), which appears in texts of Internet users. The new uses of word rak are the language change caused by English borrowing sentence pattern that appears in image macro “That Post Gave Me Cancer”. That image macro quickly gained ground on the Polish Internet last years. This paper concentrates on the metaphorical use of the word rak and its previous meanings in Polish. In addition, in the description of the expressive attitude, the article refers to the general tendency to use the disease names as sources of metaphors.

Epic poem or epic party? Review of meanings and expressive stability of the adjective epic (epicki) This paper concerns the description and expressive evaluation of the word epicki (epic). In Polish, a new meaning appeared in the adjective epic, which was borrowed from English and gained popularity among users. The article contains an overview of the meanings of the adjective epicki based on book sources and web space, and illustrates its functioning in Polish. In addition, expressive characterization of the latest meanings of word and its stability has been characterized. The work also draws attention to other literary terms that have penetrated into colloquial Polish.
