Familial searching stanowi metodę wyszukiwania w bazie profilu DNA, który będzie podobny do zabezpieczonego na miejscu zdarzenia. Technika ta jest obecnie stosowana przede wszystkim w Stanach Zjednoczonych i Wielkiej Brytanii. Przyczyniła się ona do rozwiązania wielu trudnych spraw karnych, w których jedynym dowodem był ślad biologiczny pozostawiony na miejscu przestępstwa. W związku ze stosowanym przez organy śledcze instrumentem pojawia się jednak szereg wątpliwości natury etycznej. Zasadne wydaje się więc rozważenie szans i zagrożeń, jakie niosłoby za sobą wprowadzenie familial searching do polskiego porządku prawnego.

Familial searching is a method of looking for a profile in DNA database which is similar to the one secured on the crime scene. Familial searching is currently used mainly in the United States and Great Britain. This technique has been very useful in solving many difficult criminal cases in which biological trace left on the crime scene is the only evidence. However, several doubts of ethical nature arise regarding the instrument applied by the investigation authorities. It seems reasonable to consider the opportunities and risks related to familial searching when introduced to the Polish legal system.
