One of the forms of popularising the knoweldge on the past is local historical performances. They are ludic in character, but also perform didactic functions with regard to a younger and older generation. They transmit patriotic information in an attractive form, and influence the process of shaping a historical awareness of Poles. The historical performances presented in the article show the history of Cracow. They are very popular among the inhabitants, though, arouse some concern, too. They are an example of the trivialization of scientific knowledge that is more and more often serving the role of fun. Its ludic, popcultural presentation has become a fairly unquestionably used canon of pedagogy these days. Historical performances seem to be yet another piece of evidence of the cumulation of the process of making modern culture more ludic.

Józef Białynia Chołodecki is an important figure in borderland regionalism. His views and actions are also a part of the contemporary understanding of regionalism. He cherished the memory of individuals who fought for independence and emphasised all forms of service to homeland. He was an expert in local history and lover of Lvov. His achievements are worth analysing in the context of turn-of-the-century borderland regionalism as an example of commitment and service to the local community.

Existing studies on the historical knowledge of the nobility within the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth primarily rely on printed sources. However, these studies often overlook the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, focusing on the Kingdom of Poland instead. This article aims to present Lithuania’s history as depicted in the silvae rerum of eighteenth-century noblemen. Through scientific investigations, it is evident that descriptions of Lithuanian history were less frequent compared to Polish history. The period covered in these descriptions typically ranges from the origin narrative (ethnogenetic legend) to the reign of Władysław Jagiełło. Notably, the history of the Jagiellonian dynasty is incorporated into the history of Poland. By comparing the noblemen’s silvae rerum with historiographical works, both from the 18th century and earlier periods, the article examines the sources of the nobility’s historical knowledge. The analysis reveals the continued influence of works by Maciej Stryjkowski and Wojciech Wijuk Kojałowicz, while also acknowledging the impact of eighteenth-century writers such as Kasper Niesiecki, Władysław Łubieński, and Franciszek Paprocki on the historical content of the silvae rerum.

The subject of the article is an analysis of the three aspects of depicting urban space of Eastern Ukraine, focusing specifi cally on the Donbass region and the city of Kharkov as depicted in the novels Voroshilovgrad (2010) and Mesopotamia (2014) by Serhiy Zhadan. The urban space of Eastern Ukraine overlaps with the most important values that shape a person’s personality and aff ect her or his self-identifi cation. The city space is also a “place of memory” and experiences of generations that infl uence current events. In addition to the historical and axiological dimension, the imaginative aspect of space is also important. This approach is used by the author to describe the urban space as a functioning imagination or stereotypes associated with it as opposed to its realistic depiction.

Historical consciousness is a phenomenon of incorporating the past into the current social consciousness, being the sum of ideas about the past and the way of thinking about it; it also entails awareness of the existence of the past, present and future and a sense of having one's own, unique history, attributed to any given society. This study presents the results of research analyzing the respondents’ historical awareness of such historical events of the last century, which are considered the most important for Polish history and have particularly stuck with their consciousness. The research shows that the respondents’ historical consciousness is on a rather low level, and the choices of the events from Poland’s past are conditioned by the media campaign connected with the anniversary of Poland regaining independence in 1918.
